Just saying g'day and been going through old posts to learn as much as I could from yo guys. Thanks for sharing the information and will try to add a few of my little mods as might help someone out too.

It is an Australian delivered 2010 KK Cherokee.
I have just recently inherited this from my father. He was still driving it at 92 the day before he died!

Here is dad proudly standing next to his new to him 2010 KK Jeep Cherokee, this was 5 years ago. He was so excited the night before that he couldn't sleep. Hope I am still that way when getting a new one at 87 like him. :)

Scored a $3000 Freedom pack on it as well. Also came with reversing camera, trailer brake controller, caravan reversing camera plus and anderson plug etc. Only 28,000 km on the clock. Old couple traded it in on a new Grand Cherokee Turbo Diesel as was getting a bigger caravan.

I'm making some small changes so it will be suitable for my camping trips towing the offroad trailer. Most important is some decent recovery hooks.

I had the rated recovery hooks already and want to mount them to the KK. Going to use the brackets from the Mopar 3" stainless nudge bar that was on it.

The heavy wall tubing was cut into saddles and captive nuts welded to the underside. Then welded to the nudge bar bracket plates. The saddles are needed to clear the nuts and leave some room for upwards pulls out of a bog hole etc.

It will bolt back under the front rails and crossmember in this position.

Was hoping I could leave the bumper on but the nut plates inside the rail and crossmember kept moving around while trying to thread the plates bolts back in.

I made a plate off the side of it too to hold the lead for my battery charger that I have permanently mounted inside the engine bay.

Doesn't project out at all so no hurting your shins!

Probably could have been mounted slightly higher with shorter saddles. But only had about 10mm of clearance above the captive nuts.

Neat and unobtrusive. Will give me some where to attach my hand winch via a tree projection strap attached to both hooks at once to spread the load.

Strangely, our RHD version at least, does not come with a dead pedal/footrest. I found it uncomfortable on long trips, so doing something about it.

Just like the XJ, the rear doors don't swing open very far. Can see why it was hard on our big American Akita Kuma to get in and out past the door when going up the ramp.

Not a lot of gap there so was doubtful how much further I could make the door swing open.

Stock door swings open to 847mm.

These doors rely on two fingers on each hinge that hit a pressed up bump or stop to limit how far it opens.

The bottom hinge is harder to work on and are joined as well.

Top ones are easy to see and work on so just have to start trimming away a bit at a time evenly on all four 'fingers'. These can even be cut with an angle grinder with a cutoff disc.

I found a 10mm air powered belt sander worked the best.

Getting into the upper part of the bottom stop was the hardest. Using a grinding stone on a Dremel was the only thing I could get in there.

One thing I had to watch out for was that the spring loaded arm, that helps keep the door open, didn't run off the end!

Kept making sure that the stops were hitting flat on and that they all hit at the same time. The spring loaded arm is now about as far as you can go and really didn't want to thin the upper fingers anymore either.

Now it opens to 912mm, or 65mm/2.75" further than before.

Sold my XJ last week after having it for 19 years. Swapped my personalized GOJEEP plates over to the KK.

I couldn't leave it stock with my custom plates on there now could I! Might still need a little lift too.

Got the biggest tyre I could fit without having to start trimming and regearing. Front is a bit tight but doesn't rub anywhere.

Rear has plenty of room.

The wheels are PDW Exide 17x8" with +35mm offset. That brings the wheel only 5 mm further out than stock and the 245/70R17 Toyo Open Country ATII another 5 mm. Overall width 20 mm wider but track change is only 10mm. Well within legal limits and good for the bearings and steering etc.

Tooks a few weeks of cleaning and detailing to get it looking this good as don't think it was washed or vacuumed once in the last 5 years that I remember!

It has been cut, polished and waxed 3 times in as many weeks! The paint felt like sand paper before I started.

Been following your Willys build for a long time now . nice work
But those tires and wheels ....??? need a good lift real soon it looks, I would not drive that 1/2 miles LOL

As far as regearing....I run 265-70-16s with 4.10s on one of mine and perfect
almost same height as you have , so much better regeared

There has been a huge blitz on lifted 4wd's of late so wont be going 4" plus like I did with the XJ. Always worried when I would get done and get taken off the road! So most likely just go the 2926 and 2730 OME route as wont be adding bar work to this one. The Willys will take over touring roles once completed.

I have gone back 3 years on this forum looking to see if anyone has ever posted that spring set in height but not one person that I can find as all on the 2927 and 2731's. Has anyone ever fitted the no load OME springs without extras? The factory can't even tell me and I live walking distance from ARB headquarters!

Started as a blacksmith many moons ago and got into structural steel construction and even engineering school after that. Then was a brake mechanic at one point and at one point even building huge impellers for different uses in industry and even the defence force. So steel has always been part of my career but body or coach building is a hobby that I have developed once in semi retirement.

I only driven home from the tyre shop and that is it! Wanted to put on a OME lift straight away but the ARB warehouse is out of stock on the struts so might be weeks! Going to be away overseas soon too so might have to wait until next year, so will have to put up with the embarrassment until then I'm afraid. :oops: :|

Many thanks for that. When I spoke to the salesman at ARB headquarters he said it could be as little as 20mm or 3/4" for the 926's! They are also going to phase out the KJ range as well as getting too old to support now.

I remember somewhere someone had posted the spring rates for the KJ, KK and stock coil rates. Anyone have them on hand?

Spring Rates:

925 Light Load: 350 lbs
926 Medium Load: 375 lbs
927 Heavy Load / CRD Medium: 400 lbs
790 CRD Heavy Load: 500 lbs

Just for comparison:
Stock/Rustys: 310 lbs

Thinking of putting my own kit together.
Using King springs listed for a KJ which should net me a bit less than the 2" as the KJ's are around 200 kgs, 440lb, lighter.
KJFR-27 and KJRR-28
They also make all the springs for OME, TJM and Murchison Products here.

For shocks front and rear, considering Bilstein. 24-139168 front and 24-139175 rear to suit 0-2" of lift with no added bumpstops. The 24-282659 is the same in the 5100 series instead of the 4600 series. Thought it might make more sense though to match front and rear as the 5100 has a slightly shorter overall travel length, only less compression, and harder valving.
This correct and a good option? The other rear Bilsteins I seen used all require adding bump stop as their compressed lengths are too long from what I can see.

The KK has only done 33k KM, or 20,500 miles so think everything else should be alright as no offroading either since dad owned it at least.
