Post subject:  KK Tire Change 265/60r18

I would like to put new tires on my 08 Jeep Liberty Limited. Currently it has 235/60r18 on it. I have put a Rough Country 2.5 lift on and now want to put 265/60r18 tires on the stock rims. Will they fit without modificaction? Will I need to put wheel spacers on to have clearance on the backside of the tire.If so what size of spacer/adapters would I need. Thank you for the info on this topic. I am new to Jeeps but I love :JEEPIN: my Liberty.

According to TireSize.com:
Quote:
265/60R18 tires have a diameter of 30.5", a section width of 10.4", and a wheel diameter of 18". The circumference is 95.8" and they have 661 revolutions per mile.
Generally they are approved to be mounted on 7.5-9.5" wide wheels.

2 things...

Lift: If you actually got 2.5” of Lift you can fit 30.5” diameter tires. You may have some minor rubbing on the pinch welds. If so, follow these directions to pound them over. (Do NOT cut them off.) http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f202/how-pound-pinch-welds-stop-fender-rubbing-34295/
Only problem is, with the RC Lift the springs may sag within the next year or two and you may get additional rubbing. I that happens, upgrade to an OME or JBA full spring lift. It will perform much better.

Tire Size: 265/60r18 is a 30.5 inch tire, which is the maximum diameter you can run without regearing your differentials to 4.10 or 4.56 (stock is 3.73). You will notice a loss of power and gas mileage with this size. In terms of width, the stock rims are not wide enough at 7” (at least on the 16” rims... check your 18” rim width.) An 8” wide rim with 5” of backspacing would probably be enough to run those tires, but if you don’t want the additional expense of new rims, but you like the tire size, keep the same height but get a narrower size. Good quality wheel spacers like Spidertrax are almost as expensive as some new rims, plus they require regular re-tightening of 2x as many lug nuts to be safe.

^^^^^^This , I highly doubt you have enough lift with that spacer lift, worst lift around of a KJ/KK
Measure left front , middle of wheel to bottom of flare and report back before I say anything else

Tommudd and lfhoward, Thank you for the response to my question. The current distance between the top of the tire to the fenderskirt is: outertire to fender is 7 inches. middle of tire to inner fender is 7.5 inches. the inner side of tire to inner fender is 7 inches. Took some pics of the clearance will try to get them posted. ?????

Measure per above. You should be ~20.5" give or take. If you do have that room, I would recommend a 255/60R18 size for the stock 7" rim. Folks have squeezed on a 265/60R18, but as stated, most of the tire mfg's recommend a 7.5 to 9.5 wide rim. Tire choices in 18" are less than for a 16", but there's still plenty to choose from.

I'm running a 265/65/18 (31.6 diameter) on the Rough Country 2.5" lift, and it's a tight fit, but it fit's with only minor rubbing on the plastics after folding the pinch weld over. Definitely needs a re-gear, there's a noticeable loss of power, but it works for now.

Plan is to go 4.56 and Lokka locker in the rear soon,

Go get the teraflex extended bumpstops from JeepinByAl, otherwise the shocks bottom out over large bumps and dips in the road. He has a better price on his website than Teraflex has over the phone

That tall of a tire needs 4 inches of full spring lift to properly run it, plus yes 4.56 gearing, but a Lokka locker ? Come on now

Since you are not talking to me you do of course have 3 inches of lift, but depends on what size you are wanting to run now

All I did was ask a question . You had to insault me because I did not understand how to measure what you wanted. You are a moderator and a life time member of this blog? Nice Tom, if this is how you treat people new to this site and to the " Jeep Lifestyle ". Wow, sorry for you.
