We have a 2008 Jeep Liberty. The tires need replaced. We're in an area where we get that frozen white 4-letter word. We have 4x 225/70R16 tires/rims that are in almost-new shape from our old vehicle. The tires on the jeep are 235/70R16. Can I safely use the 1/2" smaller tires on the jeep? I asked a tire dealer and he immediately said no, that it would make the vehicle unstable and dangerous, then tried to sell me $1000 of tires. My wife's going thru cancer treatment and I'll be unemployed soon. Not whining, just explaining why I'd prefer to save $700-$1000 since Uncle Sam frowns on me making my own money, even if I use the good crayons. I do understand the slightly smaller tires would make the speed as displayed off by about 1 1/2 mph at 65 or so, machts nichts. The key question is, is it safe to use the slightly smaller tires? We have a temp warm spell so I’d like to get new(er) tires on before the Arctic North comes back and makes me swap my hot pink thong for long johns w. trapdoor britches (have I said too much?) :ROTFL:

The tires are smaller, do not have the load range for the KK , personally I would not do it
I'd sell the ones you have to fund a new set the correct size

On second thought, the tire size stuff I quoted didn’t mention load rating. I’d look closer into that as Tom advises. Safety should be first.

Edit: Tom used to work at a tire & wheel shop, as well as done suspension work to lift 50+ Liberties, so i would defer to his opinion on this.
