Post subject:  2011 KK Sport Engine Surge

Greetings from West Michigan! I have been experiencing the dreaded engine surge on my 2011 Liberty. Some history:

2011 KK Sport
No Modifications
68,000 miles
Purchased used, 3 years ago, with 28,000 miles.

About a week ago, I took the jeep in and had the rockers and lifters changed for an engine tick under warranty.

About three days ago, when backing out, the Jeep was "bucking" or "surging". Since it is winter, I let the Jeep warm for about 5 minutes, put in reverse, and backed slowly out of the garage. When I placed in drive, there was hesitation and "bucking" again. I see the tachometer jump about 100-200 rpm. This is a repeatable symptom when the Jeep is cold, like when I leave work.

After the engine and transmission are warm, I am traveling 55-60mph at 1400rpm. I came upon a slight uphill, gave a little more gas, and the Jeep started to buck/surge again. The Jeep never shifted out of overdrive.

Trying to find a pattern, I got on another stretch of flat road, and at 45mph I accelerated quickly. The Jeep comes up through 2500-2800 rpm no problem, then starts bucking up to 3400rpm (this is where I let off to allow it to shift).

No engine codes.

This reminds me of a crank shaft position sensor on my old '94 YJ.

I would appreciate any of your thoughts or suggestions. I purchased an extended warranty, but have a deductible, so I would like to try and troubleshoot any silly problems before leaving the car at a dealership.

Thank you!
