Post subject:  Transmission Fluid Level-COLD

I have a 2010 Jeep KK Liberty Sport. I have the stuff necessary to measure the Trans fluid level but I believe the level is too low to get an accurate temperature reading. ( Drove 20 miles to work and the temp only registered 40 degrees F). I do have a small leak which I am going to try and fix this week. Does any 1 know what the fluid level should read on 1 of the aftermarket dipsticks when cold? (vehicle has sat overnight). Need a starting point to get an accurate trans temperature reading.
Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Level when cold is very inaccurate. You can run it in your driveway and it will get up to temp eventually. I test mine when its about 80*c

At that temp it should be about 45mm

I understand that at cold the level is inaccurate. My problem is the trans temp is only getting to about 40 degrees F which I believe indicates the sensor is not actually touching the fluid. I just need an idea where the level should be cold to see if my theory is right or if something else is going on.

That's the problem. :( The temperature of the trans is not reaching the lowest temp listed on the chart and I THINK it's because the fluid level is way too low. That's why I would like to know what it reads cold so I can start with enough fluid in the trans without OVER filling it.

Id honestly at this point just take it to the dealership. Mine has checked mine for free.

What is your ambient air temp? If its above 40F then you probably have an inaccurate reading
