2012 Liberty. 26,000 miles. The shift lever has been stiff, and today going down grade in the national forest, I tried to put it in first gear. It would not go in. Instead, when in the Drive 1 position it engaged Drive 2. Later when it was cooler, it went into all gears, but is still stiff. Has anyone seen this problem and what is the repair? -- I see a lot of bushings for sale, and Mopar sells a whole shift cable assembly, but can't figure out what I might need. Any advice? |

No one here has a response. So I went to transmission shop. Was told there is a lever on top of the transmission that corrodes over time. The cable attaches to it. They can't work on it until July 1. They suggested I pull the skid plates and try an spray it with a penetrating oil. If that doesn't fix it, they will drop the transmission and clean the shaft up with sand paper. |
