After a 4 hour road trip last week when the outdoor temp was over 90, the airflow and A/C effectiveness was noticeably bad. I remembered today to pull the cabin filters, and I'm confident they are original from 2010. Almost solid gray gunk.

So how bad is it to just leave them out and run without them? Any potential of shortening the life of the fan or the A/C evaporator or heater core by clogging them up with gunk?

There are trim levels without the cabin filter. I change mine out with every oil change. Mine are helpful since my Corgi loves to shed everywhere.
