| Post subject: | CV axle shot? Or something else? Video link |
I’ve had a nasty clunking sound vibrating through the floorboards on my 08 KK for a couple of years. At first it was only when my larger summer tires were installed, and went away when I put my winter pizza cutters on. Now it is pretty much constant. It corresponds to wheel speed and makes no difference if 4wd is engaged or not. I’ve had it at the shop a couple of times but they could never reproduce the sound. Finally think I sourced the problem. The passenger side front CV axle seems to be slack coming out of the axle tube. The CV boots are all intact. I have 125k KMs on it. Is this a shot CV or is the problem inside the axle tube or differential? Video demonstrating problem here: https://youtu.be/4-bZyvvy9ck?feature=shared Appreciate any assistance! |

There is a bush inside the diff housing. IIRC there are 2 types, one is a plastic & the other is brass/bronze. My guess is you have the plastic one. It needs replacing. Probably mud has got into it & destroyed it. |

Thank you! Is the bushing you are referring to located inside the differential housing or is it at the end of the axle tube where the CV axle slides on the splines? |
