I wouldn't be surprsised if the gasoline ate the padding underneath.
Petroleum products have a nack for disolving things.
I would pull it up ASAP and make dang sure you got every drop of it, or at least to give any trapped pockets of gasoline a chance to evaporate.
Believe me, liquids under your carpet dont go away unless you tell them to. Even then they are stubborn.
I would also recommend calling a local carpet store and ask them about removing the smell from gasoline stained fabric.
