Not sure if this is the right area for this topic but I will give it a shot.

Anyone have any suggestions/techniques for touching up scratches on bumpers?

Last night someone clipped the back end of my Jeep in a parking lot and scratched my bumper. Its on the plastic part of the fender flare (almost right after the mud flaps) and a little on the corner of the bumper. The minor scratches I think will buff out but one hit took the paint off and brought it right down the the black plastic (I think thats what it is).

I'm thinking of buying touch up paint from Jeep and trying that but I dont have that much experience and am afraid it will stand out and look horrible (or I will foul it up all together)

I'm assuming if I brought it to a stealership that they will tell me I have to replace the whole bumper or pay for an entire spray job which I would rather not do so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. There are no dents or anything, just the scratches. If I had done it myself or even on a trail, I probably wouldnt care but it bothers me because someone else did it and would like to fix it if possible.

Thanks

touch up paint will do the trick but you will have to do a couple of coats especialy depending on what color it is light colors are a pain but it can be done take your time but the gash will always be there all the paint will hide is the blackness of the bumper, again just be patient

It's patriot blue, so it is pretty dark. I guess I might just leave it alone as much as it kills me, I dont want to make it worse and really make it an eye soar.

I'm sure the stealership would want me to buy a whole new flare and I would imagine that wouldnt be cheap. A paint shop wouldnt be that cheap either (would require body work for the scratch?) so I might have to learn to live with it.

Thanks for your help, I will update you if I decide to try it.

as for the flares you'd have to get a whole new set, from what I understand they don't sell them individualy unless you find one on e-bay,
Patriot Blue that would be easy to hide that scar dark color on a dark color

yes if you decide let me know how you make out
