Good evening folks.

I have a new (to me) 2002 Liberty. It replaced an '82 K5 Blazer. I love just about everything about this truck, but for one small issue:

I think someone went nuts with Armor All (or something similar), and caused the clear plastic gauge cover to have a milky coating.

I have used regular blue Windex, yellow Windex, and Formula 409 to try and clean this mess off. While the milkyness will disappear when wet, thus far, as the plastic dries, the clouding returns. Admittedly, this is more annoying that dangerous, it still looks like crap.

Before I buy any more cleaners, I thought I'd ask for the members opinion here and keep from spending another $100 on cleaners which won't work.

im not certain what that could be, armor all usually dosent turn things milky like that, it makes it greasy usually. i would just replace that part. by the time you take all the money and time to clean it up, you could have bought a new cover anyway...

I know what you are talking about, the normally clear plastic takes on an opaque coloring? If so, I rinsed mine with plain ol water and it helped clear it up.

Mods - Mopar side bars, 4 window regulators. What, windows aren't mods? Maybe I could spend money on cooler stuff if they'd stop breaking!!!! =P

Believe it or not, we used to use gasoline (i think benzene or diesel) to clean up the black parts of the vehicle. You may wanna give it a try at a tucked away spot first, see how it acts up, you may have to dilute it first, though. (we didn't)

I would not use windex on plastic. I would use Meguiars Plastx to remove the milky look on the cluster. It will also remove and swirls in the plastic if you apply it correctly.

Crimson, this isn't age yellowing or a loss of transparency. It looks like the plastic was coated with a liquid, complete with drips, runs, and wipe marks. When dry, all of the previous are very visible. When wet, the marks disappear. I'll look around this weekend and see if I can find Plastx.

I used to work at an FBO, and they had a spray called 'Plexus' used to clean the lexan windscreens of the small planes. I wonder if Plastx is similar...?
