I just got back from Big Rock yesterday. I decided to leave the mud on the body for a day as a badge of honor. Now I just popped the hood and saw the mess under the hood. Any certain process I should follow to clean the engine compartment?

Power wash it. Then do a lot of scrubbing by hand.

I've allways covered to alternator and fuses with a plastic bag,but I've seen Hood297 foam the whole engine bay without any covering. He hasn't had any problem.

The bad thing about powerwashing it is that your engine bay will be hot by the time you get to the carwash.Best to spray the engine cool, and hose it down with hot water(if you've got your hot water split with garden hose adapter)or a few buckets of hot water, before hoseing it down.
If you take it to the carwash, give it time to cool down first.

Do not spray cold water on hot exhaust manifolds - they will crack.

Not necessarily true....it would have to be pretty darn cold.

If your wheeling all day and then go throw a stream crossing that is 60F-70F then you have the same chance of breaking a manifold as you would washing it.

Thats my :2cents:

I used to drive to the car wash, and spray the engine down while hot with diesel fuel. Smoked bigtime, and let it sit for a few minutes. Hit it with the spray and all grease and dirt was gone. So much so, that the thing actually rusted. Do it at your own risk though. This was on a 1965 Ford truck.
