This seemed as good a place as any for this post.
All of a sudden, my headliner is deteriorating in the very front on both sides. Basically the foam backing of the fabric is disintegrating. Dang. The Arizona climate is tough on polymers.
It appears that the right way to fix this is to replace the entire headliner. I could do that myself, but auto upholsterers have to eat, too. (And do a better job.)
As a stop-gap solution, I scraped away a lot of the deteriorated old foam. Then I bonded the cloth to the foam remnants with a Permatex contact adhesive. That adhesive is for bonding a new headliner to a fiberglass panel. I don't expect it to last very long, just several weeks until I can fix it properly.
