Post subject:  Help with LBJ stuff for a compass!

I took my moms compass to the shop today becuase it needed an alignment and while on the machine they noticed that the LBJ were bascially shot. Also he took me into the shop and showed me that you can take the tire and wiggle it back, forth, up and down and the LBJ definately didnt look well.
So the shop owner told me that you couldnt just replace the LBJ, you actually had to replace the lower control arm in order to get a new LBJ becuase they come together and you cant just pop the ball joint out... which I was suprised bc on the libertys you can just pop it out, but I didnt argue bc I wasnt 100% correct bc they are 2 different vehicles.

So my basic question is, was he correct about having to replace the whole control arm just to get a new LBJ? He freakin quoted me over 1,000$$ for parts and labor bc there are supposidly no aftermarket lower control arms, so you have to get them from the stealership for 240$$ a side  and with both sides needed to be done thats crazyness...

Im currently looking on the internet for more info and parts, but any information would be amazing! Becuase I know all of you are more knowledgeable then me

I found these parts on autopartswarehouse.com and was wondering if they would work

Here is just the lower ball joint:

And here is the whole control arm with a ball joint already in it:

Rock Auto http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframe ... de=1433554
Lower ball joints $32 or $38.
Complete lower control arms with ball joints and bushings for $93 or $99.

Oh, and if they take more than an hour per side they are hacks.

wow the guy quoted me 1.5 hours for each side.

But what way should I go, just the LBJ or the control arm with LBJ?

I'm a driveway hack with no power tools and can swap ball joints out faster than that.

I only have the parts fiche for the Compass, so I may not be seeing everything.

Directions, based on what I see
Remove wheel
Remove ball joint nut
Pop ball joint
Remove control arm, two bolts (Optional, easier to work press in type mounts off vehicle)
Remove ball joint
Reverse to install

I don't see how the sway bar connects the suspension, but if it needs disconnected it appears to be one bolt.

I don't think that a 2007 should need new bushings yet. Inspect them for dryness and cracks, then decide which you want to go with.

Okay ill get a closer look at them myself. Like I said whenever the mechanic took me into the garage he wiggled the wheelk and you could see it had alot of play in it and the ball joint was wiggling a good amount.

My mom just recently moved to FL from MD and I think it was the roads the screwed her car up. 95 is just always a wreck!

Could be that they are just a poor design, like the stock Liberty ones.
