Stephen & I are going to do a small service on my KJ next week. So I went to AutoOne and they didn't know which engine oil to use or which diff oil to get. Can anyone tell me a brand and number so I don't get the wrong stuff. They also couldn't tell me how much I will need for each.. anyone :?:

You guys are driving petrols aren't you, I looked up the petrol oil specs in my owners manual (which covers both diesel and petrol models).

For my 2007 model, it says, for the 3.7L engine, to use SAE 5W-20!! I kid you not. That seems very low viscosity for any engine running in Australia, might be alright for Iceland but I don't really know. The A3/B3 Euro spec is also recommended.

For the diesel guys I like Penrite HPR Diesel 5, which is a semi-synthetic 5W-40. The diesel specs in the manual call for 10W-40 (for what the US calls 'export models' yet they spec synthetic like Mobile 1 for domestics (even through it is not diesel spec rated). Some Jeep dealers are putting Shell Ultra VX 5W-30 in everything they service. I took that sewing machine oil out of my KJ as it made it sound like a ore crusher. The important thing for diesel oil is that it supports the highest oil standard level for EGR engines, which means CH or CI rated.

see if this link works, failing that its:

www.penrite.com.au -> oil recommendations -> 4WD icon -> follow it through

try these first.

http://ew5.earlweb.com/recommendations. ... icle=42421

this is the print friendly link, doesn't seem to have session info in it so it probably won't expire.

I am probably a long way behind the times as it is now february but Albion Jeep tell me that for my 2007 3.7l petrol, Mobil 1, 10w 40 is the oil that they use. The 20w oil is suposed to be for the V8 in America, 20 w is not available in Aus.They also charge me $80 for 5litres, the same price as Superelchepo, so they are making a fortune or doing the right thing ?
Greg

Yeh I just checked the book and it states SAE 5W-20 for the 3.7L.

I had the oil filter and oil changed at the 1000km sercice and just checking the paperwork and they put in Super S 5W-30 semi-synth.
Cost was $58.28 for the oiland $20.00 for the filter.

Got another 2 months before we go in for the 12,000km service.

I bought Penrite, it was about $45 or so for 5L. The oil filter was around the $20 mark...... that was fun to remove.... thanks d-head at Auto1 for the great advice :roll:
