its been months since I've had a chance to do anything on the KJ - but finally got the antenna on sorted out a mount for the UHF. its a little different as its a 5W handheld, but I like the flexibility of being able to take it with me. Big jump in the range with the external antenna so all happy

Well you motivated me. I completed my handheld mount last night. Looked around but in the end I took my Dremel tool to an old mobile phone mount that I had lying in the shed. I still need to think about the remote mic clip. No external antenna for me, the 2W doesn't seem to provide for that, but its good enough for convoy work (range is 10km+). If someone knows how to mod the uh065sx for an external antenna attachment I'd love to hear about it.

I think they are the same design as the UH047sx - I've pulled mine apart and there is a antenna coil hard wired to the circuit board. The only way to get an external connection would be to turn that connection into a female SMA connector then you could connect in using a male SMA connector. Problem is it means cutting the existing handheld antenna casing off and trying to fab up some sort of secure mount - really messy and a job for someone with small fingers. Plus from talking with the Uniden tech support its only the uh07xxx range that can take a larger antenna - the circuits on the others can't handle the additional input :(

Yeah, sounds like too much effort and mess. I still have to use these handhelds when the family goes to the snow (which we do a couple of times a year) - which was the original justification (hehe) for the things. I'll leave them alone, besides I can just stick it in my pocket and not have to worry about cable connection.

yep - way too much mess  I still have 2 of the 47's that get used knocking about on the land and the bigger one lives in the car or when we go into the gorge in my pocket love the fact that its waterproof there's bit of water down there.

Mount looks good though - much better than trying to stuff something else into the cup holder
