I'm looking to upgrade my headlight bulbs (still original equipment) before the Desert Trip. I have looked at a few straight in replacements, like the Phillips +80. A bit concerned about heat generation by these replacement units and the affect on the plastic elements of the headlight assembly.

Anyone with some expereince with these replacement H4 inserts and what are your thoughts/recommendations.

:?

I remember Alex (Jeepology) on AJOR suggested the IPF H4 fatboy replacements (ARB), I was under the impression they did not have the heat generation problem, but, I have not looked further into it. I got some Narva U-Beaut H4 bulbs, and they where terriffic, I have taken them out of my old KJ, but not yet put them in B2.

Just one thing, I can honestly say, that even upgraded lo/hi beam bulbs in standard headlights made no real difference to what I could see when I was out driving thru SA ect ect the other year, on those big open roads, its so dark and there is so little reflecting the light back, even my 100w Narva 175 spotties made little difference, honestly I could hardly see further than my low beams, the only thing that really made a difference, was a big set of powerfull spotlights, Then things were a lot different.

Basic hi/lo is ok - assuming town/out of town driving
Middle of nowwhere - make a choice, two spots & slow down or go country  lots of lights, upgrade alternator, battery and a bull bar that could take out a semi and then 100+ sideways on dirt will still be the person coming towards you

with a stock alternator and single battery the KJ can, imho, only run a couple of spots in addtion, any more and you kill the alternator/regulator/battery - not sure which is the problem part yet :?

But a straight and spread beam on two switches would be usefull - hmmm.. time to go to supercheap again :)
