Hey Greg, i've been to this Dalmorton camping area, it's on top of a hill, about 400 mtrs from the river, not a real good spot for camping imo.

BUMPED
Proposed date: ..........lets' say Friday 26th - Monday 29th August 2011

Proposed Venue:
At this stage I'll propose " The Doon Goonge camp site located beside a river in the Chaelundi NP".
http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/resou ... elundi.pdf

Please suggest any other preference you may have over this one if you wish.

Please lets' keep this conversation going so we can refine the details as needed and have everyone's imput.

We will also need to confirm numbers
e.g.
(NSW).................................................................(QLD)

1. Glend :D (Camper) ...........................................................1. J.a.G :D (Camper)
2. GIFrog :D (Tent)..........................................................2. Nobster :D (camper
3. Jenko :D (Tent).............................................................3. CMOHR? (Tent)
4. Phil & Sandra :D (Camper) .................................................4. Pipes? (Camper)
5. ?????................................................................5. G'me Mud :D (Jayco Camper)
6.?????.................................................................6. Silverkee?
7.?????.................................................................7. 2JeepFamily? (Tent)
8.?????.................................................................8. ?Fouros?

a.) Doon Goonge camp ground has room for 7 x only camper trailers & 3 x only tent sites. i.e space is limited
b.) $15 access fee per vehicle (once of fee) + $50 refundable key deposit (access key can be collected from either Grafton, Coff's Harbour or Dorrigo NPWS offices.)
c.) Camping fee $5 pp per night + $3.50per child per night
d.) If a group booking Fees are preferred to be paid in bulk (otherwise individual payments are too much paper work for the office staff....so sad )i.e. one full payment in advance to confirm booking.
e.) No firewood is supplied to this site so we would need to supply our own

If we have more than 7 camper trailers and/or more than 3 tent site requirements then we would need to have alternative choice such as Dalmorton Camp Ground, which is near by and a larger area, with no need to make a booking or pay access fees. Doon Goonge area can still be accessed if required for trail driving by paying the $15 per vehicle access fee.

So once we have confirmed our numbers we can then decide on which site to use.
If our numbers allow us to fit into Doon Goonge Camp site then one payment will need to be made to hold & gain access to the site.

I believe the Mud's will get the prize for the longest distance travelled (using Dorrigo as one end):

Mud's: Blackwater to Dorrigo (shortest route via Goondiwindi I think): 1159kms WOW!
Phil and Sandra: Wollongong to Dorrigo: 654kms
Sydney to Dorrigo: 552kms
Sunshine Coast to Dorrigo: 537kms
Brissy to Dorrigo: 432kms
Gold Coast to Dorrigo: 358kms

We are planning for a four KJ convoy from Sydney and will be bringing the 'banner'.

Doesn't look too bad, at least it wasn't raining then. Do we want to be near the river if it's going to be raining?

Should we develop an alternative destination (say further inland over the ranges) just in case it looks reallly wet? I realise that fees have to be paid, yada yada, but I might be prepared to sacrifice a fee rather than sit in the rain all weekend. Just an idea, there just seems to be alot of rain around this winter and that area is not known for its waterfalls for nothing.

Hi everyone,

Well I might have been moving that weekend, but I convinced the girlfriend that camping would be much better, and we could delay moving! Not sure if the girl will come but I'll be there and am looking forward to meeting fellow Kj'ers. I'll be in a tent or a swag, so save a tent spot for me please. Let me known what to do for the booking.

Total attendees......................CAMPERS........................................TENTS
NSW..........................................2.................................................2
QLD...........................................4.................................................3

NOTE: So on those numbers we may need to have our base camp somewhere like Dalmorton (I believe there is plenty of free camps along river banks etc around the Dalmorton area as well as the NPWS camp ground) . Or we could also have 2 tents on a camper site.

a.) Doon Goonge camp ground has room for 7 x only camper trailers & 3 x only tent sites. i.e space is limited
b.) $15 access fee per vehicle (once of fee) + $50 refundable key deposit (access key can be collected from either Grafton, Coff's Harbour or Dorrigo NPWS offices.)

Greg, that's ten KJs already, does the small campground have room for that many vehicles? Maybe its a good idea to opt for the larger spot with adequate room for others that might be late joiners.

For the Sydney area people, apologies, I have noticed that the Dalmorton area is not where I thought it was (SW or near Dorrigo) but NNW of there, not easily accessible by road from Dorrigo, and actually closer to Grafton. The quickest road from Sydney would appear to be the Pacific Hwy via Grafton and out the Gwydir Hwy for 6kms to the Dalmorton road turnoff. The driving distance to Dalmorton is 681kms from western Sydney.

I have decided to do a "Reccy" of the area on the week-end of July 1-3rd. I can then ascertain the space available and how NPWS have laid out their Bollards and parking/camping bays etc @Doon Goonge Camp grounds. I can then also check out the Dalmorton area and any "free" camping spots that may be suitable to our contingent. :seuss:
I will report my findings and recommendations on my return when we can then confirm our preferred site booking  :CAMPING: :JEEPIN:

I have just read the latest Go Camping Australia mag and found these camping areas in case Doon Goonge is too small for us all.

http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/Natio ... x?id=N0569

http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/Natio ... x?id=N0156

http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/resou ... abahNP.pdf
not sure about this one as large trailers and caravans are not recommended.

I am still for Doon Goonge as the available tracks and surrounding areas make it perfect for exploring.
