Yesterday I finally managed to get the radios fitted to the KJ!

Image

The UHF CB is a GME TX3440, and the HF is a Codan NGT. Now we won't feel quite so lonely when touring the remote areas. Once, that is, I've learned how to use them!

Just need to join the VKS737 4wd HF radio network, and the Radtel network to link into the phone system.

The HF is in the back against the side of the wheel arch.
I haven't yet discovered where they mounted the UHF! The 3440 has all the displays and buttons on the handset and the unit is hidden behind the dash somewhere.

Tune in Pipeliner, man nice setup. Just make sure you lag up those connections esp the RF one, once water gets into coax its stuffed, it sucks up moisture via capiliary action.

Scotch 23 & 33 rubber & UV tape.

Awesome comms setup.

OK pipeliner, I gotta know - who makes that HF antenna? I can vaguely recall seeing something similar in another picture from down your way (not on this site, just a random pic while cruising the 'net) and was always curious who made it.

Codan - An Australian mob. That is the auto tune base, he hasnt got the whip screwed in. So it is actually longer than what is shown there. So what did you go Pipeliner, stainless steel or fibreglass whip?

Stainless steel whip - and yes, it adds another 1800mm to the height which is why it will only get screwed on when we go on a trip.

I will bring the footy to fraser and we can park this thing on the beach and use it for the goal posts.
