OK, I can forget the beadlockers at this time - apparently I need a totally different type of rim to be able to fit them. I had bought a set of alloys from Nobster and it is impossible to fit the beadlockers on them without fouling the brake calipers. It seems that they need a set of rims which have considerably less (more?) backspacing which would make the tyres stick out past the flares, and there's a limit to the illegality I'm prepared to have!

So it looks like I'll have a set of rims to sell in the near future!

No Holiday for ME.

Work has said that the new press must be running and My Appentice is going to TAFE for 6 weeks.

Just put in The UHF as well as replacing the the rear end especially to do the trip, and now no go..............................

What rotten luck Chris.

We'll have to organise a special weekend trip just for you when we get back.

I am in the process of purchasing a set of four wheels and tyres to match what I have now so I am just going to stick with the OEM tyres and have two spares, cheaper than putting new tyres on. I know they are not a brilliant tyre for off road stuff but at leaast now I should have a spare set of wheels so later on I can fit some decent rubber to one set for off road stuff, but the Grand was never meant to be for serious off road stuff anyway, more of a tourer.

OK, time to get down to the nitty gritty.

We (Pipes + SIL/BIL in Prado) are planning to leave Brisbane EARLY on Sat morning with the intention of getting to Charleville by Sat night. Hopefully this will enable us to reach Birdsville by Sunday night.

JaG/Mud, we are intending to stop at a roadside pull-in about 20km west of Charleville and at the river camp just east of Birdsville.

What cmohr said, and have a blast. I want to see photos. How about on the road blogging. Based on what Smerf has said recently maybe crawling around underneath the KJ and torquing up all the bolts is a good idea.

Lets face it.........there's going to be something I haven't thought of...... or overlooked..... or something :!: :!:
As I type this the KJ & DE (Desert Edge Camper) are being fitted with a new brake controller and general check/upgrade of the 12v charging system

Just had the rear shocks replaced......still need to replace the rear MT ATZ's that are chipped from the last desert run through the Gawler & Googes Track etc.

Yes, I've just had to pull out those extra extra long travel shocks as they are clunking, put my old standard one back in for the time being, Not really happy about that I must say.

If you have a spare old set, and a tiny bit of space I'd take em with you..

Wish I was there...

I had better start putting things in place I 'spose, only 48hrs till departure.
The Tom Tom doo doo it self yesterday comming back from the sunny coast, looks like I'm up for another one before we go.

Put "Mt Dare" in as a destination when you get to Birdsville and see where it tries to take you! Or buy a paper map instead.

When doing some trip planning with Google Maps a while ago I discovered that Google didn't know that the Plenty and Donohue Highways were the same road in different states! It refused to believe that you could drive across the state border from one to the other!

Excitement is building as departure time gets closer. See you in Birdsville on Sunday!
