OK I like the looks and the ease of sitting it up. Do any of you have one or know of anybody that does? Are they worth the price, I know a good tent is worth it but having never seen one of these in person , hate to save up and order one only to find its not well made! Its either one of these on the ground or an ARB RTT on a trailer

cmohr has one, and i curse him every time he sets it up because he is finished and having a beer by the time i have just started setting up the camper

A late fifties friend of mine has one, that she used it to tour round tassi recently. Simple to set up, well made and waterproof. Only down side I found when I thought about getting one is they are long..... I couldn't see how to fit one inside a KJ so it would be a roof job. But 10 seconds off the roof and 30 secs to set up is still faster than any other tent I can stand up in. |

I'll probably incur the 'Wrath of Kahn (cmohr)' for this. I had a look at a couple of them at Jambo. My 2 cents. Yes they are fast to set up, as all the ads say. However, with that big flat front and awning they catch the wind better than WildOats 11 going downwind to Hobart- thus they need to be heavily staked. Inside it was hot, and ventilation poor compared to some, but hey every tent at Jambo was hot on that day. The light inside could be better than the bat-cave. The owners all swear by them, almost cult like, I guess I would to if I spent that kind of money on a tent. There was a nice Spotiva tent there that had a docking portal for the Jeep, that was impressive, and big, and stood up in the wind, fits in the back of a Jeep, and was cheaper than the Oz Tent. I can't even remember what my tent is called but it's f=ing huge (9 man standing up), and yes it takes a while to get it up. |

Blackwolf also do a fast set up tent that is shaped more like your average tent with lots of room, never used one but, quality looks good and BCF sell them. Cheaper then an oztent too (at BCF they up here they where). Write up in the latest Go Camping Australia magazine. Worth a look? |

Surely the important thing is how many lying down? After all, you can get 18 standing up in most lifts, but I wouldn't want to sleep in one! |

I like it because its simple, it's a component tent, so if all you are doing is overnight, you only have to put up the tent bit, not worry about putting on the front walls. I strongly suggest if you do get one, get the tent fly as well. You have to buy it sep, but, as with all tents, a fly means there is a double layer above you, so , DRY and COOL. I find there is plenty of ventilation, the whole back of the tent is a screen, theres windows on both sides, and the front, with the front walls, it allows you to close up the front area overnight and just have the screens open and no one can see in. The canvas is strong and very light, the screens are very fine, so the smallest of bugs cant get thru them. The tent floor is very thick, and runs a good 8ins up the tent walls, so rain is not an issue. Also I like the fact that there is no floor in the front area, I just use a big sheet of Shade cloth as a floor, it lets all sand and dust and water go thru and stays clean, so you aren't filling up the tent with crap. Asd said, don't go putting one up facing the direction of strong winds, but the back is sloped and handles very strong winds, I know as I have been in very rainy windy weather, tent was fine, and dry. I 've had dome tents, and I still have a small one for touring, just o'night stuff where you dont need actual shelter, but was sick of all that wasted time putting it up and taking it down when staying places for a few days, you had to put up the sleeping dome, then the shelter tarp and a screen dome for the bugs, and then another tarp to eat under too much I say., also with domes, they are not high enough for me, (6'3'') and you cant use all the floor space as well as you can in a flat walled tent. Yes you do have to use tent pegs, but all tents do, saw one guy complaining about that on Ausjeep, but I think he had no idea, just bought a JK, then bought the biggest Oztent, then went touring and was complaing about how it was no good, seems like he didn't have any idea. I have no trouble, But thats me. I just say, if you are going to get one, go "whole hog" and get the tent, fly, and peaked side walls, and delux front panel. and you wont be dissappointed. |

It's a 9 man tent (Coleman)....... & you can stand up in it .. in each room geezzzz

Yes Yes....... Very Funny It was like that when I got there.......
Hows those 4.10 gears going???... happy???? , KJ running better????, better gear changes????? Better drivability?????? Any difference in Fuel economy????

No noticable difference in fuel usage, much better drivability, very noticable better get up and go, havn't realy tried the trutracs yet. Hopefully Camp Coffs will get to try them out. ( if I go ) |

I've got a Black Wolf which is great. very fast to setup on my own and very stable in high winds. the only real downside is the pack size. When it's in its bag it's 1200mm long and about 300mm in diameter, however the fram that supports the tent stays attached to it and runs the full length of the bag so I often carry the tent on the roof cross bars without using a basket. just another opinion. |
