Post subject:  New A/Ts are ready for Coffs

Had the A/Ts put on last Friday (Bridgestone D694LTs in 245/70 but the section width specs read closer to 250 and a bit higher than a normal 245/70 with a 751mm diameter - a true 30 incher). A bit of a squeeze to get that spare carrier closed, and I will have to grind a little bit off the hinge and the metal pipe frame. The rear window still opens - just. Ready for Coffs.

Don't grind the frame on the spare carrier. Simply get a file and turn the mounting holes into slots, that makes it easy to get the bolts in, and you don't weaken the hinge.



Tyres look good. My brother is going to get those same tyres for his BT50.

i had them on the jeep very good, now i run them on the prado and look like getting 60k plus. Interesting though i have only run "P" construction not the LT, would interested to see how the LT is, wether it is stiffer in the side walls etc.

Any updates on how the d694lt's are going. Looking at either getting exactly what you have got, or the bfg all terrains in the same size. Would appreciate an update on how you have found them. Any rubbing on body work etc....

Yes it has been awhile now. I can report the following on the Bridgestone D694 LTs:

- I have over 23000 kilometres on them now, and still have 75% of the original tread depth on them.
- I rotate them to even out wear rates
- Great tyre in the wet on pavement and a good general offroad AT tyre with not too much road noise.
- Just completed a 5300km outback Desert Trip which was unusual for the amount of mud and flooding encountered. The KJ was heavily loaded with camping gear, food, water, an extra spare tyre on the rood, and extra fuel in jerry cans. The D694s were run over extremely rocky tracks through the Sturt Desert, sandy and corrugated tracks, high sand dune and dry loose sand in the SImpson and heavy mud and flooding around Innamincka. THey performed well in all these situations and the KJ never (NEVER) became bogged or needed assistance from another vehicle. They were run at pressures from highway (40psi), rocky tracks and outback dirt roads (22-26psi), and in deep sand and mud (18psi). I never had to change a tyre on the trip. On inspection after the trip there was no shoulder block chipping, and just a few small rock cuts in the shoulder blocks, and no damage to the sidewalls.

On this same trip another KJ also running D694s did sustain a puncture ( a nail picked up in the Innamincka Hotel carpark) which was easily plugged. The owner also reported little wear after the trip.

One vehicle running Jeep original equipment Goodyear Wranglers on his JK CRD had three flat tyres on this trip.

Of course it could be argued that any good AT tyre would have performed as well if carefull attention is paid to the to the correct tyre pressure for the situation. Most of the other vehicles on the trip were running Cooper tyres, and they have reported no problems either.

So overall I am very happy with them -still.

Thanks for your honest opionion about the d694lt's. It seems as though they really do live up to the advertising hype! I'll be swapping to the ltd694's towards the end of this year once the cooper st's wear a little or i get sick of skating on wet bitumen!!

Any updates or comparisons on the Cooper STT vs the D694 you had on before?? Noise/grip/life/rubbing?

Well I actually still have the D694s on the car. The STTs are my outback/big trip/Jamboree tyres and not the daily drive ones - the advantages of having two sets of wheels. The STTs were great on the Cape York trip, absolutely no complaints and they handled the Cape Dev road and the Old Telegraph Track with no damage at all. Of course the STTs are more noisy on the tarmac, and the handling is not as crisp as the D694s on the road but you can't really compare them with the D694s because they are designed for different situations. The D694s are a great all round tyre, if your only going have one set then go with them. I will drive my D694s until they get to worn to use anymore.
