Fuel Consumption

I am sure I have seen a thread somewhere on fuel consumption but not sure if here or ajor.
On my recent trip to Terrigal my 2007 3.7l V6 returned 11.3l/100kms on the way down and after bashing the air filter on the concrete driveway a few times and got rid of some junk out of it returned 11.1L/100kms on the way home.Thats nearly diesel country. I am a happy chappie.
I sat on the posted speed limits.

That is about what I get on the highway. Last time I tallyed up ALL my statements over a four year period the average was 12.8 for everything over aprox 160000ks

What sort of load were you carrying to get those figures on the trip to Terrigal? My very best was a trip back from Jindabyne to Sydney (pre-lift days) with four adult sized people, Thule roof pod with ski gear, and personal luggage in the back = 9.5L/100km (at night with no wind).

On our recent trip up North our 07 3.7 was really heavy.
60l engel, 75amp thumper, recovery gear, clothes for 2 weeks, camping geat, 2 adults and 1 child etc... was getting 410km from 3/4 of a tank. Still had 1/4 a tank which I could get easy another 100km.
This was day driving at 105km/h.
Ambient temp about 30 air con set on 2.

I did have Elanor serviced and air filter changed before the trip.

Just came home from Fraser..
Left Cathedral Beach - travelled all the way down the beach to Inskip - caught the barge, then travelled by beach all theway down Rainbow Beach, round onto Tewantin, then onto the highway. 300km, (200 of which was sand) fully packed roofrack, full to brim inside the KJ, 15lts/100km.

You hear many people complaining about the fuel consumption from their petrol v6's but it looks like we are all getting pretty good fuel from ours.
Getting low 11's up to mid 15's like Chris got fully loaded on the beach is dam good I would think. On my 2 previous desert trips fully loaded diesel LandCruisers were running around 23 - 25 l/100kms.

Glend, I was running 2 people, 2 ports, esky ,a bag of food and some stuff for the grand kids, so not a lot of weight.
Although fully loaded on our westerm trip we ran mid 15's on the gravel sections, so similar to Chris on Fraser.

Add a trailer or c'van to the mix and watch the comsumption go into the 20's/100 :cry:

I wouldn't have a clue what I get.. don't have a trip computer thing on the roof and I've not tried to work it out with k's to L of petrol. However... I don't think it's all that good.
I'm now driving a VY Holden to work and back as it's cheaper to drive to work than the KJ.

Further more... I always thought/felt that the auto was "slipping" more than it should. Thats why I put in the Transgo kit, I was under the impression that would help.. and it does to an extent, gear changes are much quicker ( notice a nice quick change up and down not that slow transition that took about 3-5 secs) but still, on Fraser I noticed that the auto would slip and not change down too much, thus overheat and go into limp mode. When I got home I went down to SuperC and bought a bottle of Lucas auto transmission additive. It says on the bottle it ruduces slip, increases pressure, and helps stop overheating in the auto, and I must admit I have noticed a vast improvement in the operation and feel of the transmission. The car seems to feel more directly connected to the engine, a much more responsive feel when you put your foot down, rather than the engine just increasing revs and the car eventually catching up in speed, I notice and feel the accelleration . I also notice better economy as the car isnt just reving away and not going anywhwere.. Takes off the line quicker with far less revs, and generally the lockup is better and holds for longer so long uphills the car stays in top and still pulls up the hill with plenty of power whilst not needing the go pedal to be pushed thru the floor.

So, well, thats better.
