I had the cover off the inside of the "A" pillar the other day relocating the brake controler and found this piece of rope anchored half way up and went up on top of the roof lining, any idea what this is attached to?? wasn't quite game to pull on it incase the side air bag went off or the lining fell down. Just currious.

Probably a cable snake not removed by the installer. As a cable guy when I started out in IT we used to leave cable snakes everywhere in case we had to go back later and run more. Cords were also once used to assist the install of windscreen moldings and other rubber trim pieces. Agree with Pipes though, a photo would help.

that is for the curtain airbag if the A pillar deforms far enough

i dont recommend you pulling on it unless you want to see if the curtain airbags work ;)

Well I'll be... amazing - a little piece of rope

From the Service Manual:

"A tether (4) extends down the A-pillar from the front of the airbag cushion, where it is retained to the pillar with a
plastic push-in routing clip and is secured to the base of the A-pillar near the belt line with a screw.

The front tether keeps the front portion of the bag taut to the side of the vehicle, thus ensuring that the bag will
deploy in the proper position."

...and now I am wondering about the wisdom of drilling into the A Pillar to mount the snorkel bracket.
