Does anyone know why that big oval shaped hole is in the engine bash plate? It's sole purpose seems to be allowing mud to pack in between the engine and the bash plate. I want to weld some plate over it and close it up. Can anyone think of any reason not to?

Well you could weld over it I suppose but I would put money on you still collecting plenty of mud.

I generally drop mine down at every service or after a major sand or mud run, clean it out and get rid of that extra weight :SOMBRERO:
