This has now been edited. On weekend of the 4th and 5th of February a few KJ owners are heading up to visit the Rydal Show. I thought it would be a good chance to add on a KJ Weekend Camping Trip in a great location.

Here is a link to the Rydal village website:

http://www.rydal.com.au/index.php

Here is a link to the Rydal Show website and a list of things that they feature at the Show (which is a fairly typical rural/bush agircultural show, and there will be horses, working dogs, as well as the cooking!). The kids will love it, and its a real Aussie country show.

http://www.lisp.com.au/~rydalshow/last_year.htm

I'm proposing the KJers that want to come along to the Show would be very welcome. We will be camping at Lake Lyell. Of course anyone wanting to go up on Friday afternoon or evening could just setup that much earlier.

I don't know how much 4WD activity there maybe as I don't know the area well yet, but Lake Lyell is a regular destination for SJC trips so maybe we can find some tracks around there (Mt Walker tracks are in that area as well). :JEEPIN:

Here is a link to the Lake Lyell website: (Camping and photo gallery of the area):

At this point I have sent text messages to: Xandro, Phil and Sandra, and gi-frog. So all you LOST lurkers check your calendar for that weekend. Of course our QLD breatheren are most welcome to attend and I suggest it maybe their best chance to see the sun shine in a fair while!

Cheers Glen

Greg you'd be very welcome to come along. If your time doesn't permit camping a day trip would be great. It's only about and hour and abit west of Sydney and you can swing back north through Lithgow and Rylestone to the Hunter valley and then the Pacific Hwy. Fingers crossed.

I have heard back from others: gi-frog, Phil, and Zandro all sent back positive vibes about the trip.

More later.
Cheers

Just a bump up on this and and update.
Attendees that have indicated to me that they will be there or are trying:

Glend,
Phil and Sandra Reid,
Jenko,
Xandro and family,
James and Lynn Thorpe (gi-frogs),

I have not heard from Dave G.

Spoke to Phil today and he is thinking of camping from Friday the 4th through to Sunday night as well (retired people can do this). The 5th is a Saturday and camping up there overnight on Friday the 4th would allow a relaxed trip over to the Showground and maybe some time to test out some of the local tracks. Some people may not be able to get up there on Friday after work and that's ok. I'd like to hear back from people going to work out who is going to arrive and when.

Here is a link to information on the Lake Lyell camping facilities and fees ($15 per night for an unpowered site):

http://lakelyell.com.au/camping-grounds-guidelines/

BTW Lake Lyell campground is only a few minutes drive from Rydal Showground and on the same access road. You can check it out on Google Maps and Sat.

Queenslanders are welcome to attend.

That is all for now.

Gi-frog (and mrs Frog?) are going up on Friday (unknown time) but have to be back to work late Saturday.
Jenko is going up on Friday, but has to be back for work late Saturday (subject to update after he finds out about his head gasket).

Hi All,

I do not use this site enough - had forgotten my login.

Not sure if I will make it to Rydal, but I will try to get there for one day - probably Saturday sounds best. Hope that is okay.

Dave

I had a call from Jenko. His (V6) head gasket is gone and it seems to be cheaper to put in a rebuilt engine than pay for the parts and labour to fix the head. So he is not driving up but I think he might come up with gi-frog but I could be wrong about that. Will probably take a month to replace his engine, its coming down from one of the Jeep engine recyclers in Qld.

The weather has been really hot here lately, and its building up again in SA and VIC today. I had a look at the 7-day forecast for the Lithgow area and to me it appears that the coming weekend will be bearable. The altitude helps some, and we will be next to a large large lake. Here is the link to the Bureau 7-day forecast page just click on Lithgow and you can see the update any day this week.

http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/forecasts/map7day.shtml

Probably advisable to bring some shade if you have it. We will be trying to locate in the trees but if anyone has shade tarps, gazebos, etc think about bring them along. Night time will be fine as the altitude and the lake will keep us cool.

If you have a look at this graphic of the Lake and the camping grounds;

http://www.sweetwaterfishing.com.au/Lyell.htm

The best ones (to my mind after having looked at the overhead Sat shots) are probably the one closest to Maggies Hollow (that peninsula would get some breeze), and maybe the one at where the Cox River enters the Lake at the top (but it could be hot there due to the valley location, but there are more trees there).

The LOST Camping Trip to Lake Lyell has been cancelled for this coming weekend due to the heat. It may be rescheduled for a weekend later in the year when conditions have improved. :banghead:

I'm giving this another try...

I am heading off to Upper Colo on the 18th of March (Friday) for a weekend camp being put on by the Campertrailer Group. Upper Colo is open to everyone (although there is a capacity restriction on total numbers at the Reserve). Its a big place and there is a massive amount of room to spread out. The Colo River is a great swimming spot as well. There is scope for some offroading on nearby tracks.

I have already booked with the Hawkesbury Council and paid my fee ($6 a night). If anyone would like to join me at Upper Colo just let me know by email or phone and I will send you the Hawkesbury COuncil form to fill in to book (or maybe I can admend my booking to include you but I need to know in advance).

Glen
