Hi Folks, just wanted to pop in, say heeloo, and say some other wordthings.

I'am still very interested in coming along, so more than happy to pop my hand up for the group booking and pay the asocciated fees, but, do say that things are a bit tricky for me at the moment in the planning dept. So I do wish to make it, but, should work or other family related issues rear their ugly heads, I would not be able to make it.

B2 loves a campfire, he's only seen photos of one, and would like to see one in person.

Great News Chris....... 'Twas hoping to hear from you........ B2 will be beside him/herself Im sure. :SOMBRERO:

J.a.G is going on a recon. expedition to the proposed site/area next week-end with the view to investigate the camp site best suited to our contingent in the area/s. I have also discussed our expedition plans with Michael Bowen (Jeep Action) trying to obtain his knowledge of the area. He has suggested that I catch up with him if I can whilst in his patch for further briefing. :jester:

Once I have a good handle on the area and space layout of NPWS I will advise everyone of any associated fees/costs etc. that maybe applicable. :seuss:

Total attendees......................CAMPERS........................................TENTS
NSW..........................................2.................................................2
QLD...........................................4.................................................3
NOTE: So on those numbers we may need to have our base camp somewhere like Dalmorton (I believe there is plenty of free camps along river banks etc around the Dalmorton area as well as the NPWS camp ground) . Or we could also have 2 tents on a camper site.

a.) Doon Goonge camp ground has room for 7 x only camper trailers & 3 x only tent sites. i.e space is limited
b.) $15 access fee per vehicle (once of fee) + $50 refundable key deposit (access key can be collected from either Grafton, Coff's Harbour or Dorrigo NPWS offices.)
c.) Camping fee $5 pp per night + $3.50per child per night
d.) If a group booking Fees are preferred to be paid in bulk (otherwise individual payments are too much paper work for the office staff....so sad )i.e. one full payment in advance to confirm booking.
e.) No firewood is supplied to this site so we would need to supply our own

If we have more than 7 camper trailers and/or more than 3 tent site requirements then we would need to have alternative choice such as Dalmorton Camp Ground, which is near by and a larger area, with no need to make a booking or pay access fees. Doon Goonge area can still be accessed if required for trail driving by paying the $15 per vehicle access fee.

So once we have confirmed our numbers we can then decide on which site to use.
If our numbers allow us to fit into Doon Goonge Camp site then one payment will need to be made to hold & gain access to the site.

Jason, I think you've got a winner here. Coincedently this property features in the latest edition of 4wd Action issue 166. Pages 141-146 read pretty good and I believe would meet everyone's needs. e.g. camp space, camp privacy, Camp fires, 4wding, fishing, canoeing & more.

Surfing the properties webpages you will find maps, access info etc.

Camping Fees[b]
Fees are a little dearer than the NPWS @ $12.50 pp per nite + $15 vehicle access
That equates to $37.50pp for 3 nites + $15vehicle access

I have spoken with the staff of West Kunderang Receational Retreat and they have confirmed that our group would be most welcome with plenty of space to accommodate our vehicles, Tents & Trailers.

Off Road Caravans would be ok provided that they have high clearance and strong tow vehicle to deal with the steep section of the entry/departure road.

However, Bunk accommodation is no longer available as this now being used by the owner of the property.

They have penciled us into "the Cedars' " camp ground for w/e August 26-29, but I will confirm once we have all agreed.

If you have read their website you will note the various activies available.

4wding is accessable on the property provided the river is not running too high to cross. Otherwise we would then go into the surrounding NP's which would accommodate us.

We do need to be self contained (2 x WC's & firewood suppied)...N.B. NO GENERATORS PERMITTED.
If this Seems to be just what we are looking for and with web info available I don't think that I need to make a special recon. trip planned this week-end??

Please let me know everyones' agreement/disagreement asasp so I can "Lock it in".

This now has me very excited!!!! .............. :JEEPIN:  :CAMPING:

I'm a little iffy, on the "No facilities" bit. I would rather a place that has communal facilities, but, dont let that stop the rest of you from going there. I most likely would not go as I don't have WC or Shower of my own, and would not impose somebody elses.

Not sure what you mean by "No Facilities" Chris???. On the camp site that they are suggesting to place us there is two WC's.

Shower? It's not the Hilton, and I'd be surprised if the smaller campground we were considering had a shower. It does have a river however and I have a solar shower bag and a popup shower tent if needed. Hmm, maybe the excuse I needed for the heat exchanger for the KJ.

I'm ok with West Kunderang it but if cmohr doesn't like it then I'm happy at the first one as well.

I'm easy, wherever we end up going we are in. Might even be able to take the new 'van in there but it would mean taking the grand as the KJ won't tow it.

I assumed that you would bring the new van Ross and the farm owners have no problem provided the tow vehicle is strong enough and the van has good clearance.....which I'm sure would be OK on both these criteria...... :D

Sorry, I think I must have been confused by the fully "self contained" comment, cold showers dont excite me, but, so long as my bumhole wont be offending people I'm in...

After looking at their web site, it is suitable for off road vans up to 18' or on road vans to 16' so that rules ours out as it is 23' so we will take the KJ and outback camper instead.
Regards RandI
