Venue suggestions :?: e.g. Northern NSW :?: or South QLD :?:
Time of Year :?: June Long week-end 2011 (Queens Birthday week-end) :?:

Hey I'm up for that! As long as we can find a place where it is not raining cats and dogs and might actually have some dust - I am sick of rain. An inland destination might be a nice one, Canarvan Gorge is too far away for us but something like that in northern NSW?

.....Or can we make it a proper trip? Corner Country?

I'm keen too. Lets start with listing the 4wd parks in Central to Northern NSW
Geraldine - http://www.geraldine.com.au
Emu Creek - http://www.emucreek.com
Levuka - http://www.levuka.com.au
Rover Park - http://www.roverpark.com.au
any suggestion for National Parks around the area.
Hey we could call it the Downunder LOST Alltogether.

How about the Walcha area, we would have the choice of the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park (http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/Natio ... x?id=N0043) and Geraldine 4WD park is
in that part of the woods also. It is a really picture perfect place, I have canoed and fished along the Macleay
River on the North side of the park and after a bit of a search the southern side is just as nice.
It is also ruffly 1/2 way too. I think maybe waiting until mid spring might be the go, any public holidays around then?

Spring starts to run into the dates for the SJC Cape York Trip, which at least two Sydney KJs are maybe doing (dates are last week of Sept though Mid-Oct).

I'll probably be going back to Dysart at some point during the winter but can't be sure of the timing yet.

If you're interested in the "Corner Country" this could be a very interesting experience.

Sounds like a great idea - but not in June please as we will be overseas.

Somewhere round Narrabri would be a good halfway point - is there anywhere round there that people know about?

I'd like the chance to meet all you guys. I often read your posts but don't post myself unless I have something useful to say. I like the idea of around coffs. Have been to most the places in SEQ. I also have about 8 weeks long service leave waiting to be used! So a longer trip the corner country would not be out of the question.

What about the Oxley Wild River National Park (off the Waterfall Way) as a destination? There are actualy a few NPs linked together in that area. It is located just SW of Dorrigo NSW between there and Walcha. From what I have been reading about it though Google it seems to be a great place for a camping trip. Here is just one link that people might want to check out.

http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/natio ... x?id=N0043

There are some campgrounds that do not permit campertrailers due to the steep access tracks! But the other campgrounds do seem to permit trailers. Campgrounds at Apsley Falls, Green Gulley, and Tia Falls are all listed as campertrailer accessible. I don't know what their policy is about the dreaded "Bollards"! Click on the "detailed map" link in the right hand column to see a map of the area around the campgrounds and the features.

I don't have local track knowledge there but the 4WD symbol is shown for these. We would need to gather more info on tracks for our use, other than just access tracks to campgrounds.

A little further south in Werrikimbe NP, there are two campgrounds that allow campertrailers: Brush Moutain, and Mooraback.

That's one suggestion. Let's see some more.

Can anyone think of a decent site that isn't a national park, so that we can bring the dog along? I expect Glen would appreciate that as well.

Yes to the dog question, but as much as I'd like to visit Lightening Ridge it is a long drive; figure a day there and a day back - what does that leave of a long weekend. I know Phil and Sandra are interested in coming along but they live below Sydney at Wolllongong so their trip will be longer still. There are numerous State Forest and Reserve Camping areas which I believe do allow dogs. I was at one this past weekend (Upper Colo).

I've had a quick look at a few. Check this one out, just east of Armidale (it has 4WD tracks and campertrailer access):

http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/forests/locations/styx-river

If you go to the interactive map page you can look at all the ones in the various areas:

http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/forests/recreation

These are the ones that offer both 4WD tracks and camping:

This may be ok. I have been through the area a few times over the years but not that particular camp site.

Here is a emap that you can zoom in on and/or google earth the terrain of the area

This is NP that we have been to a number of times and find that there is something for most to enjoy.

I guess a few important thing to consider here to gain the majority and maximum attendance of LOST members is:-

1. Best time of year & which year most suitable to you?
2. Long or extended week-ends available to you ?
3. Period of time in the year available to you?
4. Distance of travel preferred by you?
5. Area preferred by you?

Those interested in attending this event please try and answer the above questions so we can get some kind of indication on numbers & preferences etc.

Which Year - this one! Between now and third week of September, then any time in November.

2. Long or extended week-ends available to you ?
Any combination of these is ok.

3. Period of time in the year available to you?
Up to a week.

4. Distance of travel preferred by you?
A day's drive the preference but could do longer but it obviously might affect attendance by others..

5. Area preferred by you?
Inland away from the coast (seen too much of the coast (and rain) lately).

1. Best time of year & which year most suitable to you?
- Any time this year
2. Long or extended week-ends available to you ?
- I have all the time in the world (at least for the next 6 months)
3. Period of time in the year available to you?
- As above
4. Distance of travel preferred by you?
- I can't drive for hours on end but any distance will be fine, I may have leave a day or so prior
5. Area preferred by you?
- Somewhere I won't freeze, cold I can live with, I will have Nash to look after.
Also somewhere we can get trailers into for camping, if I don't get mine built before
then I will be hiring one.
