Why not Glen? Driving in Rome is certainly something I would avoid, but at the beginning of June we are driving from Leonardo Da Vinci airport to Calais via Pisa, Genoa, Nice, Aix, Orleans and Paris - so lay off the scare stories!

It's not a scare story, and it wasn't recently but... I was involved in an accident on the motorway in Italy (between Rome and Naples) when two nut case lorry drivers were dueling for the fast lane and a car ran into the back of us trying to dodge the lorry overtaking the other one, with other cars hitting him. The ensuing 'discussion' among the crowd that gathered (and stopped all traffic in both directions), was coming to blows when the coppers arrived and started pushing them off the road. I was stuck there for three hours waiting for an interpreter to give a statement, and was being threatened with being charged for driving too slow/obstruction (because I was stuck behind the slow lorry). It was only after the coppers discovered I was from Canada (and not the US) that they let me go on (turns out his brother lived in Toronto). The rental car company was not impressed and I lost a security bond that applied at that time (1980s).

Could happen anywhere! And fortunately our travel insurance covers the rental car insurance excess.

The only countries I've been in where I definitely wouldn't drive are Bangladesh (and by inference India and probably Pakistan). They are completely insane there!

We drove across Italy From Rome to Pescara then back across to Rome, then up to Firenze, then up to Granada. Wacky fun on the roads in the towns, how they park is truely entertaining, but all else was fine.

Still in Turkey after a verry cold and uncomfortable night in ANZAC Cove...............but worth every bit. Presently travelling through Turkey and having a blast I must say. Will be back in Aus on 9th May after a week in Tuscany.

Hey Gerard
The service was great....you know the usual protocal for any ANZAC service, but the feeling is a lot different knowing you are standing at the place were history of a pointless battle/s took place which both sides suffered unnessecary pain, suffering & death.

The walk from the A Cove was a bit of hard ask if you are not fit (not mentioning any names) because of the steepness of the climb to Lone Pine, then to Chunuk Bair dodging all the VIP & military vehicles (buses & KJs)

I post some pic's when I get back

Well, we have landed back in Aus. (Yesterday) and are still Jet Lagged.

Have many pics to bore you all with but I will start with ANZAC Cove.

It was interesting to see that the Turkish 4 star General who attended the Anzac Day Service at Gallipoli was escorted by fully occupied vehicles with armed military personal driving 2 X KJ Jeeps front and rear (4) of his black Russian style limo.................. sorry I didn't get any pics of this. (I was a bit worried that I might be court marshalled or something. :-)r )
