This is the thread for discussion of the ACT & NSW KJ Gathering that is being discussed in the main KJ Gathering thread.

I will put a link in the KJ Gathering thread to bring people over to this thread. Read the history back on the main Gathering thread and then come back here for fture posts on this possible trip.

Update: We have another possible attendee (MadKaw on AJOR). I PM'd him as he expressed interest when we went to Upper Colo. He would prefer mid-late November. As we already had KJ Andy rule out late November it looks like we'd need to try for mid-November (maybe the weekend of the 18-20th). How does that sit with people?

BTW MadKaw has a caravan and as that can't be brought into Bendethra he has suggested the Abercombie River NP as an alternative site. Here is a link to some info in the Abercombie River NP and it's location:

http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/Natio ... x?id=N0093

So people indicating interest so far are:

Phil and Sandra, gi-frog, Jenko, glend, Madkaw, & KJ Andy. We may also be able to get: Dave G, Ick72, and and TK (all from SJC). I'll let these SJC people know about it.

Here is some info on the Ford camping ground at ABercombie River NP:

http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/Natio ... x?id=N0093

this seems to be the only one that would allow caravan access (for Madkaw).

I will check into the booking process for this.

BTW, had an email from Dave G today and he's keen to come along and bring a couple of people with him.

Time to get this back on track. There have been a few different location suggestions in the posts above this one. If Dave (Madkaw) is going to bring the caravan we need to pick one that is friendly to vans. I'm pretty sure that the Wombeyan Caves Road would be pretty difficult for a van (guess it depends on its length), and it's suspension - it is a track more than a road; but I have seen small vans at Wombeyan Caves. The Wombeyan Caves campground is very usable and right next to the Caves. Campertrailers could get in there via the Wombeyan Caves Road.

Had an email from DaveG and he's probably out if it's at Wollondilly (not impressed with the facilities and his lady firends don't want to go back there). Jenko and gi-frog want to move it to the 26th and just do a day trip, so they are out. So it looks to me like this gathering is not gathering momentum.

The weekend of 19, 20 Nov still suited me. As Glen said, the Wombeyan Caves road - same road as to Wollondilly Stn - is a bit hairy if towing a big van, but great fun if not towing. But if heading that way I'd rather head all the way to Wombeyan Caves than stop at Wollondilly. Camped there a few years ago and was not impressed with cost or 'home made' port-a-loo style dunnys! NOT as good as any long drop in any Nat Park... Ladies definately didn't approve...

If you have been to the caves campground, well its great! Flat, plenty of room and all facilities. Not sure where the other Dave comes from, but if towing, the road in to Wombeyan from Goulburn is much easier than the road from Mittagong.

Or, have you been to Bungonia south of Goulburn? Equally good camping, but probably not much wheeling. Can have a crawl thru a cave there too, not guided, I used to cave there years ago.

If down to a one day only trip, then I don't know. My God daughter and her Mother were hoping for a one night camping trip - although with work ramping up lately that was slightly less positive, but still interested for 19/20 Nov...

Okay, guess I should have expected, the 19th and 20th weekend is no longer going to work for my god daughter and her mother, and given the quiet nature of this thread, probably no one else?

Next time....

Dave

Yeah, agree Dave, and I haven't heard anything from Jeepers or Madkaw either. But it does give you a chance to take them to the SJC BBQ Day Trip on the 20th, which I am thinking about as well.

Hi all if you want to have the trip on the 26/27. I can check out the prices and availability of camp sites at Wombeyan Caves.

Hi Jenko, long time...

Haven't discussed that weekend with anyone, and the SJC BBQ on 20th is a maybe, but at Wombeyan Caves

Camping: $30 /family/night or $12 /person/night
Powered sites: $27 /2 people /night ($2 for each extra person).

Have a feeling that the SJC Christmas party MAY be on that last weekend in November, not sure.

Dave

All, I am out of any camping trips for the rest of this calendar year, and this will probably stretch until March next year. I have to find a property and move and most of my weekends are taken up with that. But by all means continue to organise and plan trips without me.
