Those who were at Kunderang will know I had problems with the trailer batteries. When we got back I took them round to the local battery specialist who load tested them: one was fine and the other was totally shot - any load and the volts dropped away to almost zero. So when the solar panel was on there was plenty of voltage but as soon as the sun went down the bad battery dragged the good one down.
He recommended that I install a three-way switch so that I can charge them both in parallel but when running just off the batteries I can select one or the other, since one is now 4 years older than the other. I've just fitted this so we'll see how it goes.
Just thought I'd offer this in case anyone else has two batteries in parallel without an isolator. The switch cost about $28 from a boat accessory shop.
