I am suffering from trip planning withdrawal! The past couple of years have had me planning the Desert Trip (2010) and the Cape Trip (2011) at this time of the year. I need a challenge for 2012.

I am kicking around the idea of heading down to WA via the Great Central Highway from Uluru to Laverton.

Phil's going to be doing the Vic High Country again in a couple of weeks with the South Coast 4WD Club, but I think he's taking the old Hilux.

Tentative itinerary:-

Brisbane-Toowoomba-Goondwindi-St George-Cunnamulla-Thargominda-Innamincka-Lyndhurst-Maree-Oodnadatta-Marla-Desert Oaks-Uluru-Warburton-Laverton-Leonora-Kalgoorlie-Coolgardie-Norseman-Esperance-Ravensthorpe (where Liz's brother lives).

Return Ravensthorpe-Esperance-Boyatup-Balladonia, then up to join the railway at Rawlinna and follow the railway through to Woomera-Roxby Downs-Bopeechee-Maree-Birdsville-Windorah-Quilpie-Charleville-Roma-Toowoomba-Brisbane.

Around 9100km all up. How far we follow the railway depends on fuel as there is no fuel available except by dropping back onto the Eyre Highway (around 100km south).

Anyone up for that trip?

Hey Pipes, are you still planning that big trip? I assume it would have to be pretty soon if your going this year?

I was speaking to DaveG this week and we're trying to get a Red Centre trip off the ground with the SJC people for 2013.

Phil and Sandra dropped by on Monday after a Campertrailer Group Weekend at Broke in the Hunter Valley; they seem to be keen to try to get to the Red Centre in 2013 as well.

If your going to do the WA trip I might be interested, well at least in tagging along for the bit from: Cunnamulla-Thargominda-Innamincka-Lyndhurst-Maree-Oodnadatta-Marla-Desert Oaks-Uluru; or joining you on the way back:
say from Woomera-Roxby Downs-Bopeechee-Maree-Birdsville-Windorah-Quilpie-Charleville-Roma. Had a great time at the Mugeranie Hotel on the Birdsville track last time I was out there and it's a great overnight stop with it's hot spring pool.

No, we have decided not to take a long trip this year - need to pay off the loan for the major house Reno! That trip is now a couple of years away as we plan to go back to Europe next year - since the government won't let me put the money into super I might as well spend it.
