So, the obvious poll for this new forum is in regards to who's making fuel. Most of us are probably somewaht familiar with Biodiesel blends or ethanol having used one or more of them, but I want to know who's got a still out back by the shed :)

this is where i got the plans to build mine,
my pump set up look the same but ive "cleaned" up the look of the heater and wash tank. they are both mounted on a rolling platform, so if you happen just to walk by you would think its just a water heater sitting in the garage :)

http://www.biodieselcommunity.org/appleseedprocessor/

This is by far the best site to learn on how to do it. I just like many others started with the "Dr Pepper" method which is listed on this site as well.

As of now, it is down, but if/when it does come back up. It is/was full of usefull information

I buy commercial Biodiesel to splash-mix with in my TDI and CRD, so I voted for "I want a reciept..." One of the main reasons I buy it commercially is to have some (and I admitt, not perfect) quality control. The reason I splash mix is so that I can calculate mileage by topping off at the pump (I add the Bio from my house at 5 gallon increments).

Splash mixing also hedges my bets with the cost (BioD $3.45 delivered, Dino:$2.95 at pump). Soon, bio will be cheaper in my state.

I live in a 3rd story apartment apartment so my home brewing options are limited.

I buy from a bio-refinery 45mi south of me, they are a 1st class operation that makes quality stuff for $3.50 gal.

http://www.bentlybiofuels.com/

Having seen their new facility and met the employees I have total confidence in their fuel quality

Now if I had a more thristy vehicle with a 5.9 Cummins or a 14.5 Detroit and a garage I'd get serious about home brewing or adding an SVO kit.

As it stands now I fill up the 20gal tank in my CRD about twice a month.

I started almost a year ago. Currently at about the 1200 gallon mark. I guess that means that I average about a 100 gal/mo. I am gradually increasing so we don't have to use any of that dinosaur stuff. The wife has a rural mail route and uses 40-50 gal/wk in her KJ-CRD. I need to overcome that demand to get some for my D-Max.

The CRD is my second diesel. I already have been making fuel for my Benz for 3 years now, and I'll be nearly doubling my production soon.

Have any of you worried about t_xes? On the aforementioned appleseed site, 4xx gallons seems to be the max allowed without submitted paperwork and Sam's cut. He always wants his cut. Since you are tight enough to do this and are not of the political clout/class...he will get his cut from you/us. I'm not worried about telling on myself but there are plenty of people around me that have nothing but time to get into another's business. Any thoughts without getting us all into trouble?

Still is actually in the garage. Not the back yard. Never makes it to the fuel tank though since it's much more economical mixin it with Squirt or lemonade and ice.

Getting the Stock is the hardest part. Lots of calling are going by. It took two months after I built the processor before I was able to run the first batch. Where I am located the competition is high therefore I pay for the oil. 50 to 80 cents a gallon depending on the price of diesel, currently paying 50.cents. I have 3 sources 2 of which supply about a 100 gallons a month the other about 50.
We had several other Mom and pop restaurants that gave us 25 or so gallons a month it turned out to be a pain to pick up and they would forget to close the lid on the container letting water in. See if your county has a recycling center talk to them if people drop off the oil offer to pick it up. I supply our center with a 280 gallon tot and swap it out every other month.
