Post subject:  for those of you running Biodiesel
I am collecting oil and building a processor. I have made some test batches (1 liter). My oil titrates pretty low. For those of you who run it, how fast did you switch over? b20-b50-b80-b100, one tank of each, multiple tanks, b100 all in? Are there specifics for the crd that I should watch for, filter etc?

We've been running B-100 since it was new, no leftover petro deposits to worry about. We always carry an extra fuel filter just in case.

Post subject:  Filled the work truck yesterday
I drive a truck in the Chicagoland area for a living.
After seeing it hit $4.99 per gal (no, it didn't break the magic $5 mark).

It seems to be coming down. I fill up every 3-4 days. I get 5.5 miles per gal.

Of course the truck (empty) is 24,500#, and can carry up to a 30.000# payload,
and is plated to legally run down the road at 54,999#, (a 10 wheeled straight truck).

I'm just glad I don't pay to fill this rig.

I had run B5 all of last summer as that was the only thing available in my area.
This year, I have a station carrying B100. I have been running it all summer with no mods or worries.
I had recently changed the fuel filter before starting B100. If you haven't previously run bio, or haven't changed your filter in a while, your only real concern is that you may possible plug the filter as biodiesel is a great solvent that will clean your system.

B20 is a good place to start.
As cntrline36 noted, you should have an extra fuel filter just in case. Your 2005 CRD probably has some petroleum deposits which the biodiesel will clean out as it is a solvent. Note when your fuel filter is normally due for a change. If your ok on the B20 plan on increasing before the next fuel filter change. We have found that a gradual change to B100 works best.

Holy almost 4 year old post batman!!

Thanks for the advice... I did start slow, but I never had a clogged filter. Probably because the Jeep only had 30k miles on it back in 2008. :SOMBRERO:

Had to give you a little hell for reviving an old thread. I bet we see more threads like this one though, as fuel prices climb back up to where they were.

Back to the b100 though. It got to the point where it wasn't very profitable for a while to make my own, and I scaled back my usage to B5-10. Now I am planning on building a big processor. I would like to make 150-200 gallon batches, so I don't have to spend as much time in the shed. Then, I can use the 80 gallon appleseed just for methanol reclamation, instead of doing double duty.

Well jdorris, it sounds like you have gotten pretty good at making biodiesel. 8)
Good to see your still on board. Love to see some pics of you set up.
You have to admit the picture of that fuel pump could have been taken yesterday.
Besides there is some good stuff in here even if it is a few years old.... :rockon:
