(toys) for the Wealthy! Last I checked there are several California companies not blatantly subsidized by Government custom building Electric Cars (toys) and other cars for the Wealthy. I have no problem with the Wealthy spending their money on Toys that I hope they truly enjoy and I hope the custom shops enjoy the work building the toys. But it should not be our Tax money. Corporate welfare, yup. Besides, electric cars use more energy and create more CO2 than Diesel or direct injection gasoline engines. http://tech.slashdot.org/story/09/09/26 ... r?from=rss |

Alright! This is exactly what we need. Its about time. Since most of the miles people put on their vehicles are local, non-highway miles. this would be a great improvement over what we are doing today. I can imagine every two car family having an electric car with range > 100 miles per day and a diesel vehicle that gets 40+ miles per gallon. Now if they would get the 40+ nuclear power plants started to provide the cheap electricity and start converting all those refineries to produce mostly diesel, we've got it licked. Ok, Ok, I know its a pipe dream, too many conflicting interests here, but I can dream. |

to the polution issue: in general large power plants will generate less pollutants overall than the electric automobiles they would power. as to the vehicles themselves I been working on a project to convert an ICE to electric drive (one of those home-grown conversion kits) but have been waffling as to the vehicle to use. actually have now been contemplating using an older 5spd jeep liberty to make the attempt. yea it's alot heaver than what people normally try to use but it's got a chassis that can support the weight and the aftermarket support for beefier components, although for a different reason. that and it'd be more practical. |

Believe it or not, there are millions of people that think electricity is generated from the wall socket they plug into. That's the mentality of some or maybe alot of the greenies. |

I have solar panels on my roof and a diesel powered generator. But I am still on grid. I would like an electric car. GM needs to make the Volt with a 3 cylinder turbo diesel that makes 84 HP instead of that gas engine. If you did a Liberty conversion you could get batteries where the fuel tank is and where the muffflers is but then it would be hard to find space. |

It's tough to compare electric cars as there are no US based volume manufacturers of hybrid style (lithium ion or nickel metal hydride) batteries. The regulation and monitoring of volume based lithium ion and nickel metal hydride occurs primarily outside of the US and within parts of the world where environmental protection may be a secondary concern. Much of the electricity is still produced from coal burning plants. All electric cars are too limited for rural use. Cut EPA budget and regulations and put more diesels on the road using biodiesel, a renewable resource, like they are doing in Europe. Bring back the Jeep CRD in the US. |

I would prefer a lot more diesel vehicle here like they have in Europe. My ideal vehicle would have 4 electric hub motors mounted inside each well with a gas turbine generator to power the motors. There have been a few concept vehicles like this but nothing ever comes out of it. Ford really irked me when they had the Ford Connect commercial vehicle on the car show circuit with a diesel engine then they bring it to this country and it has a gas engine. They are whimps. |

but who's gonna pay for oil ceo's vacation homes? poop fellas. lol anyways, fossil fuels are on the way out, not in our lifetime, but maybe 2 or 3 generations. oh well. |

I like the electric car concept. Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla) wants to put solar panels on every roof in the world and electric cars in every garage. Sounds like the "New Deal" which by the way worked... I love my WVO and such but if it were economical I'd be driving a Tesla model S. |
