Hi all,

Just bought a Jeep Cherokee KJ (Liberty US), used to run my mercedes E320 CDi successfully on 100% bio, now running the jeep the same ok so far.

I am curious....

My mercedes had heated fuel filter and heated fuel tank, does the 2006 UK Liberty / Cherokee have a heated tank and heated fuel filter?

Cheers

There is a heater element in the fuel filter head of US-Spec KJ CRD's, but some have had problems with the plug melting. If you look at the fuel filter housing to the port side (passenger side in the UK) of the engine, the plug on the right is the heater plug. Pull it and check for burnt plugs, if so, it will allow air in and cause rough running and no-start, since stock KJ's do not have a lift pump in the tank, they rely on suction from the injection pump.

To my knowledge there is no heater in the fuel tank though.

Are you kidding?
That would make too much sense!
There is a heated filter in the CRD. The TDI and probably your Benz have a better set up. Someone was going to change out the CRD setup to the one in the TDI which returns the excess heated fuel back to the fuel tank.
You would think you could order a cold climate heating package for diesel vehicles from the manufacture much like you would do if you wanted a towing package. That would include a heater all the way from the fuel tank. 8)
