After you "Read F2" in MPPS and save your original map you can look at it in ECM Titanium.

In Titanium, "Browse" for your map file and it will open this window:

In this case my original map file out of a 2006 American Liberty found the CXXX_808 driver.
Double click the driver.

If you press the "Info" button on the main screen, it shows that my software version is 1037380808.
Notice also that I get a green 060 tag for the CheckSum.

If I then Browse for Yeti's 808 tune under Modified Eprom, I can see what he has modified and that the CheckSum still indicates good:

Using MPPS you can "Write F3" Yeti's tune file into your Jeep.

I must be doing something wrong, when I F3 the remap file with MPPS it doesn't write to the ecm all the way. But when I re-flash with my original map the file it reads with no problem. I have a 2005 US Liberty DC 16C/16C2-9.9 1037375603 EDC16C31. I've tried all the 811 files......What am I doing wrong? Thank you very much.

You have an ecu that I haven't seen before.
Try a file compare between your stock tune and the oem 603 I have on the first page.

In windows, you can open a dos box and type:
fc yourFileName.bin 603-oem-stock.bin

Just wanted to thank all those involved with the DIY flash project. I went ahead and flashed my CRD this morning and it works great. My engine light is now gone (EGR system was physically removed last month) and I have an noticed increase in power...nicks 811 mild tune loaded. For those who are comfortable with stuff like this having pre-made and free tunes is an amazing resource. Thanks again and Happy New Year

I was wondering if it were possible to write or modify a better glowplug strategy into a tune?

It is possible. Haven't found the table (map) yet.

Hello Gents... first post after reading all 20 pages of this topic...
I have 2 canadian '06 liberty crd's one with 50,000 mi and the other with 90,000.
Excited to reprogram the ECU's, however I had a couple of questions:
-- i read some posts about an "eco tune", however i do not see the file in the original post anywhere?
-- is there any way to find out if the ECU is running in "safe" mode and not reading sensor data? (mpg is quite low on both vehicles)

thanks

I need to go back and re-read everything in this thread. I now have GDE (Green Diesel Engineering) Eco Tune on my 2006 Liberty. Only reason, when I helped my mom's sister move with my Liberty and Trailer, the both chipped in and bought the Eco Tune for me as a thank you, so I have been running that. I've been meaning to get back on here, load my stock tune back up and compare the tunes for the 2006 Liberty to all the tunes here. Also I'm looking to upgrade my torque converter in my Liberty as well so I can get rid of that stupid shutter, which still happens once in a blue moon even with the reduced torque Eco Tune! If you want to save money go with an EGR delete tune from Yeti or Nick, I mostly just ran Yeti's tune and loved it, it definitely had more accretion than the Eco Tune I'm running now.

Assuming nothing blows up after I am done with my rocker/lifter/timing belt/Weeks job I will give Yeti's tune a try then. Thanks! A GDE Eco is just outside of my budget at the moment, but if I can get a few more MPGs and turn off the CEL for the EGR delete for the price of a $20 cable then I will be a happy camper.

You probably already know but I just need to mention that one other poster was doing this and screwed up his ecu permanently. Although it may have been for a completely different reason.

So, like you said, bring the ecu back to stock.
I suggest that for safety, use the GDE tool to bring the ecu back to stock if it holds the GDE eco tune.
Use the MPPS tool to flash Yeti tune.

If you don't have the GDE tool, then I can think of no one else more experienced with MPPS flashing Liberty's than you (or Yeti). If you try, let us know.

Yup thank you Squeeto! So just for a list for anyone else

If you have Eco Tune from GDE:

  • Use GDE tool to go back to stock tune
  • Use MPPS flashing tool to READ your ECU and confirm you are on stock tune
  • Double check which version you are, I'm 808
  • Select the tune you want to use, start with the tune with the LEAST changes, so I would suggest stock + EGR delete
  • Use MPPS to flash your ECU at the SLOWEST setting possible, I have found I get better results this way, though I don't know why.

I realize the above is a VERY simplistic overview of the process, but the key here is to get the encrypted tune (GDE Eco Tune) off your Jeep and an unencrypted stock tune back on before trying to flash you Jeep with another tune.

You never want to take ANY shortcuts when flashing an ECU on your vehicle. Before I went to the Eco Tune I used MPPS to flash my stock tune back to the Jeep first before I did anything else!

Again is anyone has any questions please feel free to ask. I've now got a GoPro and I was thinking about making some videos of the performance of Liberty with the various tunes for people for 2006 Liberties if anyone thinks that would be helpful.

Thanks
Grant

Hi
For me it would be very helpful with some videos how to save and flash. I want to get rid of codes due to faulty FCV before vehicle inspection.
I am waiting for a MPPS V13 that I have ordered from China.

Hello,

I just read the map file from my 2006 Liberty 2.8CRD (European version, so Cherokee here):

http://www.hrastprogrammer.com/jeep/1037377513.Bin

According to the info in this thread, it is version 513 so I must have the oldest possible software version in existence :banghead:

If I understood everything correctly - I cannot just send modified 808 map to the ECU ... My original 513 map has to be modified for everything to work correctly?

I just want to disable EGR and FCV, nothing else ...

Your 513 seems different from 526, 808 and 811.

Download the 808 or 812 oem maps from the first page and compare them to Yeti's "ECU/FCV delete - stock" versions of the same number (808 or 812).

The maps have a certain shape to them. They represent a table of data for the ecu to reference.
You will need to find these maps in the 513 bin and modify them like Yeti did for the ECU/FCV delete.

To quickly compare bin files, I use the dos program vbindiff. This gives the hex location of each block of changed data.
I use WinOLS to find the block (table) of data at that hex location.

To get you started, there are 5 maps changed in the 808 ECU/FCV delete. The first is EGR1 at E1E50.
It is a 16x12 matrix table. To disable the EGR, values are changed to 1550 (max).

Watch a few youTube tutorials on WinOLS and this will make a lot more sense.
Titanium may also be able to this.

Thanks for the info. I already compared stock and EGR/FCV-delete 808 files using a plain DOS FC command and visually in WinOLS.

There seems to be 3 ranges of differences:

E1E50..E1FCB FCV?
E2082..E27E7 FCV?
E2964..E2A9F EGR

E1E50..E1FCB values are set to 15500 in 808 file but it looks like they should be set to 17450 for 513 because the maximum is 17450 inside stock table ...

And two areas from E275E..E2780 and E27C4..E27E7 have to be set to zero - EGR hysteresis, I presume.

I wrote the modified map to my Cherokee at medium speed and did another read/compare afterwards to see if it was flashed correctly.

Then I did an one-hour drive to test it and I really tortured the Jeep after it has warmed up. Everything seems to work as it should - not a hint of black smoke at kickdown on the highway etc.

So, this goal seems to be fulfilled. Here is the modified file in case someone needs it:

http://www.hrastprogrammer.com/jeep/513_EGRFCV.bin

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING!

Now if I only could resolve an occasional CEL using this method :?

I had "P0069 Manifold Absolute Pressure – Barometric Pressure Correlation" from time to time. Cleaning MAP sensor usually removed the code and CEL for some time. The last time I did this the CEL didn't go out so I put a new sensor in. I am still getting an occasional CEL (usually after driving on a highway and then go to a fullstop to pay toll etc.) but this time the scanner doesn't show any stored or pending codes. No codes and CEL still on. It goes out after 3-4 power cycles but this is really going to my nerves

If I only have access to the complete CRD computer source code - being a software developer I am sure I wouldn't have much trouble to remove all this CEL/limp crap which is really annoying ... I am probably too "old school" - let it drive or let it explode, with nothing in between :D

Does anyone know the exact meaning of those EGR curves?

I still cannot decipher why are they partially set to zero in the modified 808 maps ...

I have received my MPPS V13 today. Installed the enclosed program on a laptop with Windows 7.
Connected to the OBD outlet and read the ECU and saved the file.
The ECU is Chrysler ECU Type: BOSCH EDC16C/C2-9.9 and Chrysler File No´:1037377516 .

In the first step I only want to get rid of the CEL light (EGR/FCV delete) because I have a vehicle inspection/emission test next week. Maybe later if this first step works I will try a tune .

Which of the Yeti´s or Nick´s file should I use for this purpose?
I am a "newbie" on this so I need advice!
