It did not block the air on my 2003 Liberty Gas with the same box and foam strip, and I have no issues with starving for
air, and my most convincing arguement for me is that I am getting 28-30mpg consistantly.

I would still like to see some side by side pics.
Just not sold on this thing --yet.

My '05 CRD does not have the foam on the underside of the hood like other CRDs have. Is this essential to the airbox mod?

Gosh, next to the ORM this is one of the most simple and easiest to perform CRD mods. All you are doing is disconnecting the bottom of the CRD air box that acts like a Shopvac the way the engineers designed it to suck up the worst road grime and water. This restricts airflow and shortens air filter life and in many cases results on the CRD trying to breath through the crankcase instead then injesting oil. Simply plug in the V6 air box bottom in it's place and now your CRD breaths air instead of bugs, water and road grime.

Loco, thanks for the pics. Has the mod made a noticable difference in performance?

Well seat of the pants tells me it is a little more responsive. After my 700+ mile trip through nasty rain yesterday, looking at the filter tells me the mod was worth it just to keep that crap off my filter. Going up and over Raton pass both directions and driving at 70-75MPH I averaged 29.6 mpg. Best I've done yet on that run. Not sure how much was the airbox, but I'll bet it didn't hurt things. I attribute most of the increase to the SEGR.

I can not figure it out, that squard foam that is on that section of the hood block my air if I use the elbow. I think that if I want to use that elbow or what ever name it has I will have to do what Loco did (Rip it off) I do not want to do that but what else can I do.

Are you sure that you have the box fully seated on the rubber sockets? If your air box is not seated then it would sit up an inch or so and ywe, that would be an issue with hood contact. Check out the posted photo of the Russian 2.5 L and see how the air box and snorkel fit. It is juat like the gasser and just like mine after conversion.

Are we talking about the same thing? I had to remove a piece of rubber molding, not for the airbox, but to install the bug shield that I bought at the jeep dealer. I believe everyone is right that if I had not installed the bug shield and the rubber molding was still there that it would not interfere with the airbox duct. I did not remove any of the sound insullation on the hood. Cowcatcher sounds right, that maybe you don't have the bottom box snapped all the way into the rubber mounting groments.

Okay,

Which filter do you use with the mod? The diesel air filter, or the gas?

Thanks

Pete

Yes,

But other than the amsoil filter, which one? I'm assuming you stay with the diesel?

The diesel and gasser use the exact same air filters. The only difference is the airbox and air intake hardware.

Pete,

I didn't think there was a difference in the actual air filter element between the gasser and the CRD. AMSOIL only lists one filter I believe and there is no real difference in the air box or the needs of a gasser or CRD with respect to air. I had always had mine dealer serviced prior to installing the AMSOIL cartridge filter.

Okay,

Thanks... That is what I was wandering... From a diesel background, I can tell you that the diesel should definitely require more air than the gas burner. No question. So, either the gas burner filter setup flows extremely well, or the diesel setup is very restrictive.

Pete

I think that is one of the reasons why so many here are going to the AMSOIL since it has a lot more surface area with more folds.

Remember that the gasser is sucking air for a 4.7L engine versus 2.8L in the CRD.

Has anyone seen a snorkel that would work with with the airbox mod but doesn't cost a ridiculous amount of $

P.S. don't get me confused with nescosmo who totally ripped off my sig

My turbo boost hose came off twice in 2 weeks. Wondering if the air filter could contribute to that?

I have the gasser air box but haven't installed it yet - need the "deflector" piece.

The whole snorkle or just the little piece in front of it? If it is the little piece you could fab somethin up or drive without it for a while. I think it deflects rain so if you don't have much rain right now you could probably go for a while without.
