Cleaned my MAP yesterday and since i have only had it for three months and it has 42K on it i had nothing to go by on how dirty it was. However it was dry soot and a lil brake cleaner cleaned it right up.

Just bought a '05 CRD. It threw...PO299, PO401, PO107. the PO401 is gone with a replacement of the EGR valve. The other two keep coming back. The MAP is crusty and wet....wetter now that it is soaking in Diesel. I looked at the pictures for the CCD (?) and I can't tell if there are springs or "O" rings. Springs make me nervous given the postion of the bolts to remove it. I would hate to drop anything down into the engine.

Are they "O" rings as I hope?

Back to scrap off more crud....
Jim

The CCV - Closed Crankcase Ventilation system - doesn't actually need the valve cleaned - you just need to stop the oil that comes out of it - from going to the intake system - some folks do 'EHM - Elephant Hose Mod' - which vents to atmosphere - some do a Provent - which puts a trap in the line that needs to be cleaned periodically.

Also the P0401, P0299 tend to be focused on the EGR/FCV - although someone else mentioned the turbo hoses - they'll split from the oil in the intake.

P107 - sound like MAP sensor problem

I just bought a 06 with 17K miles. when I got it home I pulled the MAP sensor and it was caked more than those pictures with half the miles. Ive since done the Elephant and ORM mods. Has anyone ran water/meth injection or just water on one of these to clean the manifold and intake system over time? I have a Jetta TDI and over at Tdiclub some say it is great at keeping the intake clean. I am just wondering if anyone has tried it on our CRD?

Thanks for the great how-to and pictures. I just completed cleaning our little 06 with 27,000 miles. Not known whether cleaned previously we purchased it with 22,000 miles last summer. Had small amount of gunk but mostly loose soot. Cleaned up easily with spray intake cleaner. Used about a quarter of a can. Did remove cable tray so I could get at the sensor. Hands too big to fit otherwise. Took advise and did not remove wires to sensor until I had it off the manifold and safely in my hands. Magnet advise also followed and no lost washer.
Thanks again.
Hank
PS
As soon as the little beasty is off warranty I'll tackle the SEGR and elephant trunk mods.
Thanks
H

I plan on doing this as soon as I buy my CRD. I plan on
cleaning this and then adding a E. hose and ORM before I drive
the truck home. I suspect Ill be picking the truck up somewhere
nation wide. Should I bring break cleaner or intake cleaner with
me?

Shopping list for you -
EHM:
4" length of 3/4" Inner Diameter tube (clear seems to be the popular choice)
Zip ties
Hose clamp(s) if you want them (I just used zip ties)

ORM:
Your hands

Cleaning MAP:
4mm allen wrench
Non-chlorine brake parts cleaner (or some other cleaner listed)
Magnet

I think that's about it.

small - I think it's 05010858AA - at least that's what it look like on the diagram - but no idea of real size
if you have a generic collection of Metric screws - you could probably match it.

If that screw has gone missing you better be very very sure it has not fallen into the sensor hole (which is a real possibility). Mount a search for the thing, I dropped mine once and found it on top of the transmission housing wedged in a casting rib. If it has gone down that sensor hole it may find its way to an intake valve (think $$$$$$).

Cleaned at 60k miles. I have no idea if it was ever cleaned before this (as I just got it), but it was 1/2 way between pic 3 & 4 in the original post (crud filled, but not outside the sensor cage). Brake-Cleaner zapped, and it's now clean & shiny looking brass.

Pulled mine last night with 58K miles and it was caked in sludge. Cleaned with brake cleaner and went for a drive no more limp mode hura!

Finally cleaned mine today 64k. I have been rolling with only ORM for a while but just did the EHM and decided it was time for this too. Mine was caked and oily. Used some paint thinner with a tooth brush, swished sensor around in some paint thinner for a while, then rinsed it off with some soap and hot water put her back on a took a short ride down the street. Can't tell much of a difference yet but I'm sure it wasn't sensing much. If I see any dramatic improvement I will post again.

She runs like a dream now!
