Read 'reducing all the soot in the engine, which you would then be depositing on the trees'

Post subject:  ORM & EGR

The excuse for an EGR system on a diesel including our CRDs is to reduce NOX. If you live in LA, Vegas, Phoenix and like to drive a lot during temperature inversions and smog alerts, reducing the NOX may have some merit. For the rest of the world, it is CACA EL POLLO :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

Remember most, if not all of the CARB & EPA Hippies used non prescription drugs they bought in dark strange places before they hired on.

The so called SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY has fallen down on the job and in fear of their grants to study the sexual preferences of intoxicated cockroaches being yanked, are keeping their mouths shut out of fear so they don't have to get real jobs.

Real SCIENTISTS are very busy and do their job very well and stay out of the wakko politics that are not part of this forum but effect us all.
Some of them might even own a Jeep and be among us.

So much for my rant.

reminds me of something my uncle used to tell me about there being a high corelation (or whatever the word is) between the amount of degrees someone has, and the amount of common sense that they've LOST

always thought it was pretty funny because you witness this apparent truth so often, but coming from my uncle it was even funnier since he was/is the acting dean of a certain tenn. university

Ok thanks. I justify doing this since I'm running B100.

Post subject:  My findings using ORM

My warranty just ran out a couple of weeks ago, which means that I can start working on my wish list for the Jeep
One easy mod that I have been playing around with is to run in ORM. After a few tanks of fuel I can report a solid 2 MPG increase in fuel economy ( 23.5 mpg city versus 21.5mpg) and I can tell that the engine runs stronger. BUT the biggest difference in regards to soot is that the smoke/particulates that are normally present under hard acceleration is almost completely gone. A good way to see this is to drive at night with another car behind you and stand on the accelerator. If the engine is stock, MAF sensor plugged in, which means the EGR is functioning normally the engine will emit a good bit of smoke under hard acceleration which can be seen in your neighbors headlights. Now unplug the MAF and run in ORM and perform the same test. You should find that the smoke is almost gone, which means that the soot has been reduced (from trees and the environment).
While running in ORM you will notice that the diesel engine is a little louder and shakes a bit more at engine shutdown, the CEL light stays on, and NOX emissions should be slightly elevated due to the higher temperature of combustion in the absence of EGR.

I have read the orm posts but I am still foggy as to who can sell me the device necessary to trick the cel into thinking the MAF is still plugged in so my cel light can still alert me to any other real engine failure? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Howdy texasbros - Welcome to LOST

if you want a stand alone unit check out SEGR
however for a unit that combines the effect with increased power - try Green Diesel Engineering engine tunes.

Hi, i'm from Chile, and i have 2 07 2,8 CRDs
I did the ORM, and i had no check engine light whatsoever, is that because my country regulation regarding emissions are different??
Does anyone know if ORM will work for my CRDs???

It's a good guess that your programming is different.

Does unplugging the sensor on the top of the airbox change anything?

on US models - the engine becomes louder (sounds like a real diesel), has more power, better mileage, and the Check Engine Light comes on.

if it doesn't change anything - then it's probably not doing anything

using a scan gauge I can see a good drop in IAT temp with the maf unplugged

I have unplugged the MAF sensor completely. I notice a big difference and i Like it. I kinda feel that it shifts differently and it spreads the torque from the low to mid rpms versus the low rpms only. I have NOT had a Check Engine Light at all. What is wrong or is this ok now?

Hello !

I was reading a bit on this subject (ORM) and i see that some people done this mode and cel did not appear. I know that on us-spec kjcrd cel will appear, but i was wondering will it also appear on canadian spec liberty because i imported my from Vancouver last year, by now i did not have any issues with it, but i would like to stop this soot from entering the intake.

Thanks!

The MAP sensor is now clean (thanks to the NOOB Guide), so will pull the MAF plug on my UK spec 2.8 CRD & note the difference in performance & whether CEL is lit.

Ivan.

When I tried the ORM, I'm in the US, the cel did not instantly come on. It took a couple of starts as I remember.

Any specific reason the EHM is noted to run across the engine and down on the drivers side? I positioned mine on the right, passing the air filter box and down next to the radiator. Seems to fit well, just wondering.
thanks
pablo

My jeep has no MAF. it is a 2.8CRD but has no MAF, I could post a pic if you like. I assume this to be because the vehicle is built to EXPORT spec. My question is, what controls the EGR then?

Thanks for the info. I also went over Sir Sams guide again. I have this module in the vehicle. My jeep is however not a 2.5 it is a 2.8. is this fix compatible with the 2.8??

Exactly the same....the early 2.8 CRD was basically a bigger bore 2.5.
The later 2.8 CRD that came out in SA at the same time as in the USA has several changes such as a variable vane turbo.

I blocked my EGR solenoid off as per my linked post and really feel a difference when cruising at high speed up and down long hills! :D
