The filter head and wiring is the same on my 2.5 VM Taxi.

The filter I took off was a WIX with the electrical plug on it, not used on my vehicle, replaced it with a Bosch filter made in Germany.

Much more expensive than US prices, £18 with the discount code from EuroCarParts in the UK.

Filled up the filter with a mixture of Redex and diesel, two or three pushes on the primer and off she went.

Filter previously changed by a Taxi specialist and was removable by hand, with a bit of diesel on seal to help it seal, just like an oil filter.

Have heard of people damaging the filter head when tightening them up to tightly.

More evidence to confirm the similarities between the 2.5 and 2.8.

Part No is 1457 434 460.

Marked up as fitting some Fiat and Alfa Romeos aswell!

Will have a look and post up the Baldwin part no aswell.

Ok, double checked.

Baldwin fuel filter is a BF 5587-D, 5 micron media with plastic drain tap, you would need to put your one with the plug on it.

Some fuel filters for the 2.5 CRD come with the plug some don't, the Bosch one had it.

Longlife version of above is FFG-3902309S, which has a metal water drain plug, I assume it is a straight swap for the one with sensor plug.

Baldwin oil filter, anti drain back valve and 30 PSID By-Pass Valve, part no, FFR-PH2870 or B178.

For reference I found these parts on http://www.inlinefilters.co.uk

Prices for oil filter £2.86 and fuel filter £4.63.

In both cases a 1/4 of the price of Bosch parts from EuroCarParts.

I have read that Baldwin filters are good quality.

Any opinions?

As good or better than Bosch or not as good?

Was doing some more mucking about and they do a FRAM PH6682 aswell, though I read on bobistheoilguy that FRAM are not the best.

But when doing so I found www.filterspro.com that sells the Baldwin B178 for $5.43.

Is that a good price?

Thanks for the info. So far, the only filter that I've installed was by Muhle (Austrian I believe). Up to that point, the dealer installed the Mopar filter.

So, every how many miles you should change the fuel filter? I've read many versions about different milages.
And, can I buy any fuel filter that fits there? Or it has to be of certain size/specification?

OK. It's time to replace my fuel filter, so first of all, thanks, Silica, for the detailed write up.

Second... if I'm replacing the filter, I'm wondering if I should go ahead and upgrade the head as well. My wife has the Jeep right now, so I can't look and see what model number it is, but it sounds like it needs to be replaced.

Should I just replace it with the new "stock" fuel filter (the replacement the factory issued), or should I go with the Racor 245? Is there a huge difference?

The vehicle stalls every once in a while after start up (like, in the driveway). I'm assuming there's a tiny leak somewhere letting some air into the fuel line (I'm hoping a Kennedy Lift Pump will address this, since I haven't been able to find the leak).

It also doesn't start in the winter without the engine block heater having been plugged in, so I'm wondering if the heater in the fuel filter is shot (which I understand is fairly common).

Thanks Silica. Your detailed write-up gave me all the confidence I needed. You do a very good job of laying out what's necessary.

I have a YouTube channel, so I made your post in video version. So I hope this helps members out there too. However I probably made it too long.
