With the Samco hose from turbo to intercooler, check the clearance from the hose to the pressure sensor on the side of the airbox. Ours was touching and almost wore a hole through the new Samco hose. All we had to do to fix this was loosen the clamp holding the hose to intercooler and rotate the hose inboard slightly and it provided better clearance to the sensor. Just a heads up as the Samco hoses do not have alignment marks like the factory hoses.

Their price seems too good to be true.

I ran an estimate through the UPS website; their lowest price for shipping 5.1 lbs from Merlin to SLC, UT is $170.74!

:5SHOTS:

Ya, UPS and FedEx tend to be expensive for international.

I shipped some interior parts for a honda to the netherlands from california once, used the postal service air mail, cost me about $18 and the guy got it in 3 days.

Thanks. That's good info! All my overseas shipping experience is to/from APO's.

I don't have an opinion between OEM or Samco but just as a sticky for the OEM hoses, mopar parts online has the OEM's for around 200 bucks.

Merlin's price shipped to the US, as of today, is $236.64. I'm having trouble finding the SAMCOS on the Moparonline site.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

www.boostcontroller.com sells the Samco hoses. They are aftermarket and not sold through Mopar.

Slightly more expensive delivered from Boost Controller than Merlin (about $17), but I went with them because the hoses should arrive within two weeks. Merlin was looking at 6-8 weeks to get them to me.

Kinda off the wall but wouldn't it be more cost effective to have a set of steel or aluminum intercooler pipes built. Besides having four more clamps at least they wouldn't deteriorate from oil.

Well, you would be the first to succeed, but not the first to try, or even talk about it. Plus with a setup like that theres a much higher risk of boost leaks.

Plus the Samco shouldn't ever fail through the same method as the stockers.

Plus the Samco hoses have been tested and vetted.

All I need is the Turbo to CAC hose so I tried a dealer. He had the hose but it was orange inside.
I ordered a pair from Boost Control yesterday.
Now that new hoses are on the way, I am going to clean the oil out of the system and add a ProVent. Who has the best deal on a ProVent 200?

like most of us, i replaced my blown-out OEM hose at around 50K miles.
I went for blue (yes, risk avoider...) SAMCO set. Now my KJ has 90K miles.

I got the OBD P0299 since 10 days, cleaned the MAP, then replaced it: error code came back.

Took out the SAMCO's an inspected them. I was very surprised to see that the inside of both of them is really full of small cuts, and small bites. :? Apparently the brakes do not go through to the outside, but i say apparently, because with my P0299 on , i suspect the hoses not to be 100% leak proof. Anyone has seen the same breaks in their hose ?
By the way, i feel that the SAMCO being made of silicone, they could be more prone to small leaks, while the OEM ones would tear apart with a big noise, the SAMCO could leak more progressively???
Is anyone sharing that view ?

Can you post pictures of what your seeing?

I checked mine, the first prototype set, a month back when I did my timing belt. Looked perfect inside.

Thanx
I bought a set of hoses from Boost Controller, but haven't installed them yet. I plan to put a provent in first. However if I blow a hose in the meantime I have the new ones in the back.
I will keep your experiance in mind.

Actually, replacing the OEM hoses with a set of SAMCO before the OEM blow-out is the smartest thing to do, then you can keep a replacement at the back as you say.

As per the pics of the cuts, i did not manage to take pics of them, but i can try again. When i saw the first cut, i thought i had found the problem, but then i saw that i had dozens of cuts and small bites.
My SAMCO set was also part of the prototype batch.

Am going to a Chrysler dealer at lunch time, that will run a full detailed OBD check (to go further than just the P0299). Depending on what he says, i will order a new set of SAMCO from the UK.

I keep you posted and will try to get some pics of the inside.

Got my SAMCO's today... MY Oem at 85K were okay, the drivers side was seeping oil, but the passenger one could hang in. If I were to do it again, I'd buy a set of OEM and save the old ones for an emergency blow out.

The samco's are nice, but maybe not always worth the extra cost?

Worth the cost to me, besides I like the pretty colors. More to the point; the Samcos lack the alignment witness marks that the OEM hoses have at each end (a little notch that lines up with a tab where the hose installs). No big deal but you do need to pay attention to the routing of the Samcos to make sure they don't rub on anything. Just slip the hose clamps on the Samcos; install the hoses without tightening the clamps; check clearance along the routing (I had to take a file to some plastic "fins" on a gray vertical plug on the driver's side) twisting the hoses at each end to get the needed clearance; tighten hose clamps. Your are done although IMHO it's a good idea to recheck clamp tightness after a bit of driving.
