I had a terrible experience from Turbo Wholesale when I tried to get my Samco's from them. Let's just say it was a good thing I didn't have a busted hose at the time I ordered. When I placed the order online, they indicated that they had the hoses in stock - 3 day delivery - which is why I ordered them from them to begin with.

2 days later I get an email from someone from a different company, (there is a whole conglomeration of internet "companies" under one umbrella that they are a part of) saying the hoses were on backorder, and it would be 2 weeks before I got them. Since they were cheaper there, I said ok, I would wait. 10 days later, I get an email saying it would be another 2 to 4 weeks before they could get the hoses to me. At that point, I got fired up, demanded my money back, yada yada, and ordered from Boost Controller - and received my bright blue Samcos three days later.

That would be Mastaminds.I forget a lot of shiz, but I never forget being ripped off.

MASTAMINDS.

I did a little research on them to send a complaint email and CC the president of the company. IIRC, he is 26 years old, and Mastaminds is a controller "presence" (I won't say company) behind several different tuner-themed auto-parts online retailers. The only thing is, they are all the same thing - re-sellers. They don't stock what you order, you order it from them then they get it (from somewhere  ) and send it to you. More like brokers than retailers - but they certainly do charge your credit card as soon as you make that order, don't they?

I will say this good about them: when I demanded my money back and told them I was ordering from somewhere else, they did it without much fuss. I was expecting a battle to get my money back, but it was painless.

I also ordered the Samco clamps - I understand that the silicon is a little more finicky with pressure points, and the Samco clamps are flat on the hose-side. The teeth of the worm gear does not go through to tatoo the surface of the hose. I don't know if it makes that much of a difference or not, but I wasn't going to spend nearly $300 on a set of hoses then tear them up by using the wrong clamps, you know?

I chose blue, but this here brave soul chose highlighter-yellow: viewtopic.php?f=98&t=51045 No one, to my knowledge, has yet had a big enough set to order the Urban Camo - you could be the first!

I'll echo GDE. The OEM turbo to CAC hose appears to be upgraded to be comparable to Samco. The OEM CAC to intake does not.

I noticed my Samco turbo to CAC hose was bulging under brake torqueing and decided to wrap it to help with the possibility of abrasion. When I pulled it off to replace the thermostat recently I found evidence that the stainless wrap was contacting something. A little pushing put the stainless wrap back in place and (I assume) good for another two years - no visible damage to the hose.

I can't directly compare Samco VS OEM for the bulging under boost because I never tried the same test with my OEM hose.

The OEM clamps appear to work fine.

Another benefit of Samco is the nifty window sticker...

It seems like the majority of CAC issues are with the CAC to engine rather than the turbo to CAC. Any problem changing just the one hose rather than the pair? Obviously SAMCO only sells the pair, so this would lead you down the path of OEM. Anybody found the cheapest place for OEM to compare with SAMCO pricing?

Thx,

John

Does anyone know if any CRD's were manufactured with the new hoses or were they only introduced after production ceased? Is there an obvious visible difference between the orignal and new OEM hoses?

I have an '05 so I do not know if they changed mid-year or as they transitioned to '06.

The OEM replacement is visibly and physically different than my stock hose.

I'm not 100% sure on this, so correct me if I'm wrong. I believe the new hoses were introduced post-production and have a black interior, rather than the original orange.

I have 70,000 on my original bottom hose, and 60,000 on the DC replacement upper hose. Still holding strong. I live in a dry climate with mostly 10% humidity which isn't kind to rubber items. OEM for me when and IF I have to buy replacements.

At 64k miles my outlet hose started to whoosh after a 250 mile trip. Pretty sure both have been leaking for a while as there's plenty of grime around the connections and both hoses are filthy. Weird though because I did not notice anything when I did oil change/fuel filter change about 6k ago. I ordered the yellow Samco's after seeing somebody else had gotten them. Outlet had a 2 inch gash on the underside. No visible hole on the inlet but I replaced a couple days after doing the outlet. Seems to be running quite a bit better after replacing inlet as well. Ordered from boostcontroller and got the $16 clamps. Hoses were not cheap but not a whole lot more expensive than OEM. Samcos are a crapton better than what it came with.

I think that most will concur that when the outlet hose goes, it leaves no doubt...

I've had the Samco British racing green from boostcontrol for a few months now and I'm happy. I did have to double up the clamp on the front passenger side because it was letting air out. I was very careful to check for rubbing due to the bulging of the hoses under pressure. I even put some old hose rubber over sharp parts to protect them.

My buddy who owns a completely stock CRD blew his second CAC to engin hose over the forth while spooling up to race me at the drag strip. It split from the CAC entrance to almost the first turn and had a really bad oily build up on it. He is going with Samco this time he says since this will be his third hose.

Audiboy86,

Why is your buddy wasting fuel trying to race you?? He should not have a chance with the tune you are running! Unless yours is lifted and has 50lb. tires...
