It keeps the oil from the CCV system out of the intake track
mine collects about 1 oz/1000miles - so if you don't have something - then it all goes into the CAC and manifold.

I'm going to buy a truck that already has a provent on it. Do they ever need to be cleaned? I understand draining them, but what about cleanig the filter?

You can buy replacement filter elements. They do get fairly nasty over time, and for that reason I replace mine every year. Didn't see a point in cleaning them as they are a coellescing filter.

Air Supply now (under the TDI section)
http://www.airnowsupply.com/tdi.htm

although I haven't changed mine - and probably won't unless it's torn - I do clean it with a bit of solvent on a regular basis - it's really just a condensation mesh - the oil is in suspension so anything that slows it down will make it condense out and it runs down the bottom.

The Provent is really sized for a larger engine.

I am getting the parts rounded up to install mine, got the provent monday. got some hose and clamps @ Advance today. just need some fittings from the hardware store and a way to mount it. So that brings me to my question. I don't have access to the tools and things to make a mount like Biohazard did, how else can I mount it in? how have others done it?

I'm seriously considering doing this, but my pressing question is: Why mount it so far away?

I know we're limited on space underneath there, oh lord how I know it but there has to be somewhere closer, right?

I may buy one just to play with it and mounting it.

A warning for cold climate users!

In cold damp conditions...British Columbia winter...the Provent can freeze and plug. The result is a blown rear seal. I know this from personal experience
