Post subject:  Aftermarket transmission cooler install on CRD
This comes up from time to time as either a supplemental cooling install or as a replacement for the OEM cooler in lieu of replacing the whole AC condenser. I've posted links to several options at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=75368&p=792909&hilit=cooler#p792909

I have no personal experience with any of these installs but have done similar work on other vehicles in the past and it's not difficult. One thing to remember is that if you keep the OEM cooler you will need to add a bit of extra ATF+4 to account for the additional fluid in the supplemental cooler.

Is the first option (torqflo cooler) sufficient to replace the original cooler or is it best used in addition to the factory cooler?

I just completed the Transmission Cooler mod yesterday. I went to O'rileys and picked up a 403 Transmission Cooler. It fit nicely behind the brush bar on the driver side. I used some galvanized pipe clamps to hold it from bouncing around. Looks good and works great.

Just an update on the transmission cooler install. I just got back from a 1700 mile trip and it functioned great. No problems on the whole trip. Plus it's nice not having to see the trans fluid dripping all over my drive.

Here's my auxiliary cooler:

I picked up a Heavy Duty cooler off the shelf at my local Advance Auto Parts. It is made by Hayden but branded as an Imperial.

I removed the stock transmission cooler connections and had this connector: (photo was taken by Sir Sam's post)

The hose included with the cooler slips right over the barb nicely. Be sure to use the included hose clamp to clamp it on.

Unscrew this sensor

And slide the cooler in

I cut a small notch here to make room for the hose:

It was an easy job, took around 30 minutes. This cooler fits like a glove. I used some stainless steel tie straps and L brackets to secure the cooler.
