The reading on did on shrouds said they should be a minimum of 1" deep to be efficient, so that's what I built. For what it's worth :JEEPIN:

Makes sense, since otherwise is like you just install the fan on the radiator w/o shroud. The ffdynamics does not have an inch deep in shroud, and you can't install a fan + over 1/2in shroud, there is no space w/o touching the engine components. Unless you strip the accessories like you did anyways...

I did see that FFDynamics has the same fan as comes in this kit(FFD3600) but at 3000 cfm(FFD16). Looks to be the same fan assembly with a smaller motor. It's about an inch shallower at the motor which may open up some free space. I know that the FFD3600 already apparently moves less air than the stock mech fan but mine doesn't even work and I get by fine.
