Post subject:  DIY ECU Flash

Current car list (diesel)-
2005-2007 2.8 Jeep Liberty/Cherokee (KJ)
2003 2.8 Jeep Cherokee (KJ)
2002-2004 2.7 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WJ)
Does not work with the WK Grand Cherokee CRD 3.0

Thanks go to:
-Nicktb for starting this, offering up his vehicles for experimentation, finding a cheap flasher that can make this work and 811 EGR/FCV delete and tuning information.
-Yeti for providing the EGR/FCV for the 808 delete part and insite

You need this, MPPS V13.02 USB-
Image

I have seen these on ebay for $18.XX US and free shipping.

You may see:
V13
V13.02
V13.02 version 2
V13.02 version 3
but I think that most of the units are exactly the same.
I ordered V13.02 and the cable is labeled V13 only.
The software is V13.02.
Later version V16 (and maybe 18) has been reported to not work. Let me know if you have one working.

Pick one up that has the updated vehicle list and includes:
-Chrysler 300C 3.0L CRD Bosch EDC16CP31-8 K-Line/CAN
-Chrysler Commander 3.0L CRD Bosch EDC16CP31-8 K-Line/CAN
-Chrysler Grand Cherokee 2.7L CRD Bosch EDC15C2 K-Line
-Chrysler Grand Cherokee 3.0L CRD Bosch EDC16CP31 K-Line/CAN
-Chrysler Jeep Cherokee 2.5L CRD Bosch EDC15C2 K-Line
-Chrysler Jeep Cherokee 2.8L CRD Bosch EDC15C2 K-Line
-Chrysler Jeep Cherokee 2.8L CRD Bosch EDC16CP31 K-Line/CAN

-Chrysler Jeep Cherokee 3.0L CRD Bosch EDC16CP31 K-Line/CAN
-Chrysler PT Cruiser 2.2L CRD Bosch EDC15C2 K-Line
-Chrysler PT Cruiser 2.2L CRD Bosch EDC16C2-9 K-Line/CAN
-Chrysler Voyager 2.5L CRD Bosch EDC15C2 K-Line
-Chrysler Voyager 2.8L CRD Bosch EDC15C2 K-Line
-Chrysler Voyager 3.0L CRD Bosch EDC16CP31 K-Line/CAN

I have Windows7-64bit and XP-32bit and with both I had to manually install the drivers for the cable.
-Install MPPS software and run MPPS.exe
(if MPPS asks for version and serial no. you will need to run MPPS by right clicking the icon and choosing "Run as administrator")
-Plug in cable
-Manually install drivers from Windows Device Manager under USB Controllers
>search for the "C:\MPPS\Device Driver" folder for drivers

Image

The software allows you to id your ecu, read and save your current map and write a modified map back to the ecu.

You need to choose:
- for 2005-2007 Liberty/Cherokee = 2.8L CRD Bosch EDC 16CP31 K-Line/CAN
- for 2003 Cherokee = 2.8L CRD Bosch EDC 15C2 K-Line
- for 2002-2004 Grand Cherokee = 2.7L CRD Bosch EDC 15C2 K-Line

MPPS is run with ignition on, engine not running.
Keep the Speed Options to the default Medium.

After Read (F2), you need to determine what software version you have.
The easiest way is just open it with Windows Wordpad.
Here is the first line of my 808:
X Ò@ Ž 1037380808P53363K0 ¼ˆ§ˆ@
The 1037380808 number is shown.
Note that the older 1/2meg binaries don't show the version on the first line; just use Wordpad's Find function to look for "1037" in the text.

ECM Titanium software can also do this.
ECM Titanium is software that can be used to modify maps or just see what the programmer did to your tune.
It is not required.
I can't provide a legitimate download for it.
See next post for some examples.

If you do use Titanium, note that it may designate the hardware differently than MPPS.
Liberty/Cherokee:
-2003-2.8 (Europe) will show as EDC15C2, software 1037366603, ECM Titanium driver J063_603
-2005 (American) will show as EDC16C31, software 1037380811, ECM Titanium driver CXXX_811
-2005 (Europe) will show as EDC16C2-9.9X, software 1037380809, ECM Titanium driver JXXX_809
-2006 (American) will show as EDC16C2-9.9X, software 1037380808, ECM Titanium driver CXXX_808
-2006 (American-?) will show as EDC16C2-9.9X, software 1037377526, ECM Titanium driver C475_526
-2006 (Europe) will show as EDC16C2-9.9X, software 1037377513, ECM Titanium driver C594_513
-2007 (Europe) will show as EDC16C2-9.9X, software 1037380812, ECM Titanium driver CXXX_812
-2007 (South American?) will show as EDC16C31xxx-.813, software 1037380813, ECM Titanium driver JXXX_813
For every 2005-2007 example so far that has been sent to me, the hardware has been labeled as EDC16C31 for the "Info" button.
Grand Cherokee:
-2002 (Europe) will show as EDC15C2, software 1037366704, ECM Titanium driver J094_704

Safety notes:
-it is safer to have the Jeep's battery on a charger when doing this
-it is safer to have your laptop plugged into AC
-turn off wireless, bluetooth, screen saver, widgets and any other application that may steal cpu resources
-keep a copy of your original read file

If you modify a map, you need to finish the changes by calculating the checksum (that "represents" the data).
The ECU will verify that the write was completed correctly via this checksum.

Maps are not ECU specific only software specific. The modified map in my 2006 Jeep will work in someone elses 2006 but not in some others 2005.

Please refrain from contacting members by PM en masse for maps.
(note, Dropbox may request you to sign up. If you don't have the option at the bottom to just download, cancel and try the download again. No need to sign up.)
Use at your own risk.

Note about glow plug management:
This hasn't changed for years. If you updated your 7 volt glow plugs to 5 volt and had to have the ecu flashed, it was because you didn't have the latest 7 volt map.
If you have the latest 7 volt map, you can use either 5 or 7 volt glow plugs.
see: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=83328&hilit=GLOW+Plug+management+got+it

So if you are currently running 5v glow plugs, you will be able to use any of the appropriate tunes below.

Need the software for MPPS V13.02:

Post subject:  Re: DIY ECU Flash

After you "Read F2" in MPPS and save your original map you can look at it in ECM Titanium.

Note that you don't need Titanium. It is only needed to modify tunes if you like.

In Titanium, "Browse" for your map file and it will open this window:
Image

In this case my original map file out of a 2006 American Liberty found the CXXX_808 driver.
Double click the driver.

If you press the "Info" button on the main screen, it shows that my software version is 1037380808.
Notice also that I get a green 060 tag for the CheckSum.
Image

If I then Browse for Yeti's 808 tune under Modified Eprom, I can see what he has modified and that the CheckSum still indicates good:
Image

Using MPPS you can "Write F3" Yeti's tune file into your Jeep.

(reserved post 3)

Currently, many tunes lack the P1140 DTC code delete.
As far as we know, if you want to remove the DTC P1140 error for someone who removes his/her FCV, you need to set the value to zero at this location:
ecu - hex address
513 - E4945
516 - E4945
526 - E4945
603(2005) - E433C
808 - E4945
809 - E433C
811 - E433C
812 - E4945

Other DTC error codes can be removed as well. See- viewtopic.php?f=98&t=78418&start=473

Files can also be downloaded here:

Let me add a couple of notes to this based on my experience to what Squeeto stated:
You don't have to have these items on AC charge; just make sure your Jeep & Laptop batteries are fully charged before the read and / or upload.
One other important factor Toy shared with me; be sure you have your wireless internet connection disabled during the read and / or Load sessions. Not sure why this is required, but he was adamant that it be done...so I took him at his word
The MPPS cable off of eBay is what I used to read/load.
I did have some driver issues with the software and ended up having to load the drivers manually on an XP laptop..for whatever reason, they would not load using the setup.exe :banghead:

Post subject:  Re: DIY ECU Flash

I run the software on Windows 7, but you need to run it as Administrator (right click on icon) and it works perfectly. Toy is right, shut down Wifi and any other applications that are not needed while loading. The last thing you want is some glitch to happen during the upload!

ALWAYS download and save a copy of your original ECU file first before doing any kind of uploading. Once you have your original safe, then you can start writing to the ECU with new tunes. I can't stress the importance of that enough.

Download link included in first post. I added a version number to the file should you update your tune.
Will this be okay for those with a stock torque converter?
This tune does include EGR/FCV delete?

Do you have a 811 map for EGR/FCV delete only that I can add?

I just wanted to point out that the MPPS Driver install issue is not uncommon. I believe it is almost mandatory that you install the driver manually. I had the same issue with Windows 7 64bit.

Ok, I just made an 811 software tune that is completely stock with only the EGR and FCV deleted. I will test it in the morning to make sure it is 100% before I post it. With this tune you will be able to unplug/remove the EGR and FCV with no DTC codes. The MAF will need to be plugged back in.

Post subject:  Re: DIY ECU Flash

As promised, the 811 stock tune with EGR and FCV delete is tested ready! Squeeto will post it as a downloadable file. This tune is completely stock except for the EGR and FCV. So if you have torque converter concerns/issues about too much HP, this tune does not change anything over stock except the EGR and FCV disable/delete.

Either tune is perfect tune for the new Elbow Kit!

Also the MAF (ORM Mod) has to be plugged back in with either one of my 811 tunes. If you don't plug it back in you will get a DTC.

Thanks and have fun!

Yeti and Nick, thank you, I will add these files to the first post later today.

Edit- files are up.
I took the liberty to rename the files so that I can keep track of the (hopefully) many tunes to come as others join. Also version numbers (starting at 1.01) were suffixed so that any updates can be properly recorded.
