Post subject:  Re: DIY ECU Flash

Hi guys. I have a 2005 Jeep Cherokee 2.8 CRD Ltd. I have blanked off the EGR and I am trying to find which map I need to download to switch the engine light off. UK/EUR model

I tried Nick's 811 EGR/FCV delete - stock and Yeti's 808 EGR/FCV delete - stock. However both of these left the car unable to start.
I loaded on "603 (for 2005)" original OEM map and this has made the car run again, however engine light still on.

What map do I require for the 603?

I tried F2 Read to determine what software I have, however this produces an error and MPPS cannot complete this action.

Any help most appreciated.

Many Thanks,
Al

Edit: I have been able to F2 read and it has two sets of 1037 codes; 1037377520 & 1037375603

I don't have a 603 tune to give yet.
Unless you know what you did, if you have any issue with F2 Read, be careful with the F3 Write.

Ah okay that may explain it!
I see the word "yet" ;)....does this mean there is one to come?

F2 Read seems to be working now, and I can load maps and go back to the stock OEM and start car now.

How did you read the 1037377520? It is not in the 603 map.

I have yet to see a 520 map. If you loaded the 603 map (and the other tunes you tried), you erased the 520 if it existed.
F2 should always come first just in case.

Someone might pass one on. There are a few people with 603s here.
Keep me posted; I will put any tune on the first page.

Sounds like I may have erased the original and luckily the 603 is working on this ECU.

The 520 code was after I loaded the 603 and was able to F2 Read. On the original map at the start when I tried F2 read it came up with an error on the software and unable to read. After loading the 603 stock map I was able to F2 read. After copying to word pad, this brought up 1037377520 once at the top of the page & 1037375603 appeared twice in the script too.

If anyone has or can create a map to blank EGR on the 603 or even 520 I would be most appreciated. Can even fund if needed.

Cheers, Al

Ok I finally am at a point I can load a tune. Haven't read this tread in a while, man it has grown. One question, do you have to unplug sensors ect and if so which ones? Also looking to get a spare ECM, Will a gasser work after you flash it?

No unplugging is needed.
But a few good tips:
1. Battery on vehicle needs to be in good shape and fully charged. Turn off any unnecessary power draws like radio, lights, etc...
2. Battery on laptop computer needs to be fully charged and connected to an AC power source.
>>>(You do not want to lose power during a reflash, it could get real ugly)
3. WiFi and Bluetooth needs to be disabled on the laptop before reflashing.
4. Download and save a copy as a backup of the stock tune you are replacing before reflashing.
5. Follow instructions precisely as they are given by the software on ignition key cycling and operation.

Enjoy your new tune!

Be sure and read the first pages of this post on determining which version number you have so you can pick one of the correct ones for your build.
When you save a copy of your OEM bin file to your laptop, you can then look at it with Note Pad to obtain the version number.
It will look something like this: 1037380811P_399430 , in this example, the version is an 811.

Ok this is all starting to come back too me now. I was working on doing a flash when I ran into an oil issue. I have 1037380808P_53363K0, 808. What is the difference between Yeti-808-EGR_FCV_Delete-Mild_Tune(v1.02)-450Nm and Yeti-808-EGR_FCV_DTC_Delete-Mild_Tune(V1.02)-450Nm?

Only YETI can tell you for sure, but in my experience, the second one eliminates both DTCs and no check engine light. The tune portion is the same I believe.

Have you completely removed the EGR system and FCV (flow control valve)?

If so, I would load the second one: "808 EGR/FCV/DTC code delete + Mild tune (vers 1.02)"

Looking at the file names, they look to be one in the same to me; but Yeti or one of the others who know how to read the maps would have to compare and comment to know for sure.

Just want to add more feedback after a couple years of using the DIY tunes.

First, absolutely copy your original tune. You have to read first anyway, so you might as well just save it.

I switched back and forth between the stage 2 and 4 811 tune a lot. 4 has better high end, I really felt like 2 is better low end. You can feel it starting from a light. I got anywhere between 18 and 22 mpg using them, I think as low as 16 once where I was really entertained by black smoke on the stave 4 tune.
Speaking of smoke... In the winter the stage 4 could puff a little bit of smoke once warmed up, I don't recall ever seeing in on stage 2. Summer time, 4 blows smoke with any amount of acceleration. 2 will get little puffs before the boost catches up.
Out of curiosity a couple months ago I put the original back on, and noticed a rev spike at cold start. Email GDE and sure enough, I have the torque limited eco tune. Getting 24-26 mpg now, couldn't make smoke to save my life. That alone probably gives me 2 mpg, since I don't TRY to do it. Passing sucks, you can really tell where it limits the power.

GDE’s hot tune will also produce a little smoke, especially above 3200 rpm and at altitude.

Your summer/winter smoke difference is probably due to the intake air temp differences. I’ve seen IAT’s in the summer as high as 195F. Our intercoolers heat soak. I actually put in a custom Bell intercooler in front of the AC condenser instead of behind it so that it is the first thing to get hit by the fresh air from the grill and it makes a pretty solid difference. I haven’t really seen it go much over 100F

I've been running the yeti hot 808 tune and getting 25 miles to the gallon and around 18 to 20 miles to the gallon Towing.

Out of curiosity, is that EVIC mileage or is it hand-calculated?
