Was there evidence of oil making it up to the cam region?

Yes. There was oil up around there. Residual on the head.

This gets interesting. Sorry for all the questions but I hope they help track down the problem.
Did the bearing bush in the damaged rockers show signs of binding from lack of lubrication?

Be aware that discoloration of the rocker near the crack can be caused by over stress caused by the valve not going down enough & so the rocker flexing. Similar to if you bend a piece of metal many times it gets hot & can go blue. Unless there are signs of binding on the bearing (bush) surface it is unlikely to be lack of lubrication. You said that you had seen the rockers go in pre-lubricated. One would expect lack of lubrication to the extent needed for failure to have resulted in the oil in the lifters being expelled & so reduced valve travel & rocker movement.

I hope my thoughts are useful.

Those images do not show the surface if the rocker bearings. If there was a lack of lubrication there would be scuff marks on the bearing surfaces from movement with no lubrication. From what you have shown, it looks like rocker failure from a loose or miss timed belt.

Thanks for the info. None of the roller bearings are scuffed. I do find the discoloration questionable though.

Thanks

"Rainbow" discoloration is normal through the manufacturing processes.

I was out of town for a trip and hoped that the Jeep would be ready. Unfortunately they "forgot" to order another set of rockers. So when I got back I stood at their desk until I cofirmed that they were on their way. More time delays!

On Nov 21st I got it back but had to bring it back on the 23 because they wanted to put new injector seal in. Well, after getting it apart they realized they had the wrong size. I was doing an over the shoulder look at this point and asked if they had order the crush washers. THey had no idea about them, somewhere in taking the thing apart a few months ago they didnt see the old ones drop out. Well now there arent any of those to be had. We actually ended up using the copped washers from brake calipers that actually fit well.

Going back to why the rockers broke, I think they didnt follow the procedures to time it correctly and the belt jumped. The new rockers had the same discoloration so it wasnt an overheat issue. I did have them install another timing belt too. Since the 23rd Ive put on about 150 miles and everything is back to normal.

I ordered the cable to do some custom tunes on the engine but have yet to get past an error when launching the app.

they only take about 5 minutes to change, so you can try any of the correct series for the one you like best.
