This is from MOAB Off Road 4X4 Newsletter
this includes Sand Lick, Boone, The Gorge, Slade and all of the good places to wheel

This was posted by one of the forum members yjwrangler95:

I've been keeping tabs on what is happening at Slade, the sand lick area is under fire for water quality issues and they aren't talking as of yet. I checked the foresty service page and they were basically trying to bring this project in under the radar saying it was on hold, well now it has been release for scoping. There is supposed to be a decision made by May 2011. I have emailed the ranger and got a response as well as the lead for the project in Washington...no response. Just wanted to make everyone aware that they are looking to shut that area down. That would be widowmaker, little widow maker, carburator and others in that area.

Here is a link to the forestry service information regarding the project, its on page 3 with contact info if you interested.

davemanner@fs.fed.us -this is the ranger

Thanks

Then I got a email from Jshaffer:

Hey Max,

Found some info in Pirate that they want to close the trails in Slade (Natural Bridge) and they have posted a petition for people to sign to support keeping it open. Didn't know if you wanted to post it on your site or not so thought I'd send it via email to you.

Info at Pirate: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=904836

Petition site: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/sandlick/

It's a jeep thing, my levels of perception are sufficient to ascertain your implication

Been wheeling the different areas down there for over 30 years
Great areas for sure in the Boone
We've been down there a few times over the last few years as a group as well

I went biking down that way years ago, went through Berea into "S-tree" it was called. I know it was in the DB national forest ( sure reminded me of Deliverance getting back to it  ) Mainly was only bike/ATV trails we took, wonder if it was the same area though. That sucks if it is closed, those were some premeire trails down there.

This is really sad news. The government keeps trying to protect the Earth from the people who have to live here. It's stupid. Next thing you know we'll have to purchase air and pay a montly fee for it. The gub'mint wants to control everything.
